Weekend Open Comments

From Daletoons:

Michelle Antoinette, the queen of deified fiber, cares about you. After all, the them she’s talking about is you. Too slack-jawed to feed yourselves properly, much less your kids, the First Lady is sacrificing herself by doing battle with Big Chow on our behalf. Unfortunately, Americans having freedom, will probably not eat from the list of State sponsored foods until the food you love is made too expensive to buy. Look what we’re making them do! Let them eat taxes. –Dale

So the Wisconsin Democrat Senators are holed up somewhere in Mordor/Illinois/Wild Onion Place (Chicago), at least one having divulged his location as that. Question is are they taking cover there or are they hostages? It is of course the Land of Obama/Blago/Daley and other thugs.

This Saturday in Stafford, Texas a unified group of musicians and professional speakers will attempt to motivate teenagers to lead a rebellion against sexually explicit songs being played on Houston radio stations.

Hmmm. Sounds like a loose association of like-minded individuals to me. No one who has spent five minutes reading Bobo’s comments thinks he is, by any stretch of the imagination, a libertarian. But its nice that he keeps reinforcing the notion.

Libertarians of the world, unite! (Behind social conservatism).

The conservative movement exists to promote a strong and secure America, a vibrant economy that enables ordinary people to prosper, and a respect for the dignity and equality of every person.

Each of these is related to the other. We cannot have a robust defense unless our economy is humming and providing the financial and technological resources our military needs. But our military cannot thrive when there looms a shortfall of potential recruits, nor will we create the jobs we need without the human capital sustained economic growth requires.

So, instead of attacking the Family Research Council (FRC) in a Los Angeles Times op-ed, as he did earlier this month, the Cato Institute’s David Boaz should be joining us in our drive to support the traditional family. Boaz says he views divorce, out-of-wedlock childbirth, welfare, and even abortion, as serious moral problems in our society. We agree, which is why we at the FRC are doing something about them.

Ironically, Boaz fails to grasp the connection between a healthy family, personal liberty, and a sound economy: When the family fails, the economy suffers and social pathologies ensue. This invites government intervention, which contracts liberty—the very thing Boaz says he wants to fight.

Do these gay and lesbian people look stupid and hypocritical? Is it possible for them to look stupid and hypocritical?

Call it a fried chicken fiasco. Indiana University South Bend cut fast-food chicken patty wonder Chick-fil-A from its list of campus vendors after it was revealed that the restaurant would be supplying food free of charge for anti-gay event.

According to Change.org, the movement to ban Chick-fil-A on campus started with a group of students who came together in opposition of the franchise’s support of groups like Focus on the Family and the Ruth Institute.

Chick-Fil-A Banned At Indiana University South Bend

For another look at the issue:

SOUTH BEND — An update to a story we brought you earlier this week: IU South Bend says Chick-Fil-A has not been banned from campus after all.

As we told you, Chick-Fil-A brings food to the Courtside café each week. Some students protested when they learned the company was donating food to an event in Pennsylvania that some people say is anti-gay.

University officials say the chain remains approved by Indiana University and can do business on campus. But IU South Bend has suspended the once-a-week service from Chick-Fil-A pending a review of food service policies.

    LINK

Either way, there was an effort made to ban Chick-fil-A from Indiana University of South Bend. You originally defended the gay lesbian activities by them excercising their rights to promote pro-gay companies andtheat they were NOT authoritarian. I recall I said, “just you wait”.

#22 Darren, that is a hilarious notion.

When I run across a “response to criticism” article that fails to include a linkie to the original piece, my skepticism meter automatically pegs. Not only did Mr. Perkins fail to provide a linkie, he had zero quotes from the piece to which he was responding. That makes my propaganda meter peg.

In this case, my instrumentation is again accurate.

Mr. Perkins was preaching to the choir, and encouraging those that might fancy themselves “libertarian” in some way to remain loyal to the FRC’s PACs. It’s no small wonder that he didn’t want his sheep to be able to easily click on a linkie to the full Boaz article, think for themselves, and make up their own minds.

Here’s the linkie that Mr. Perkins purposefully omitted, for those few who might wish to be fully informed.

Or take a look at the key issues on the website of the Family Research Council, the chief social conservative group. It recently listed eight papers on abortion and stem cells, seven on gays and gay marriage, and one on divorce. Nothing much has changed since 1994, when I reviewed the Council’s publications index and found that the two categories with the most listings were “Homosexual” and “Homosexual in the Military” — a total of 34 items (plus four on AIDS). The organization did show some interest in parenthood — nine items on family structure, 13 on parenthood and six on teen pregnancy — but there were more items on homosexuality than on all of those issues combined.
    – – –
That’s why social conservatives point to a real problem and then offer phony solutions.

“Libertarians Should Support Social Conservatives…” ROTFLMAO

Speaking of “phony solutions,” the Texas Republican Party has a plank in their platform to “address” the divorce situation. They want to empower the government to make them much harder to get. Yea, that’ll fix the problem.

    Libertarian? My foot. Get real.

The spread of anti-government protests in the Arab world continues. So far we’ve seen Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Jordan and a couple other countries in the area (Algeria, Morocco?) experience varying levels of protests.

Egyptian army soldiers, to their credit, refused to fire on the civilian crowds. The government of Bahrain felt no need to restrict itself in that manner.

In other related news, there are now reports that some place called “Djibouti” is experiencing anti-government protest. Now they’re just messing with us. There can’t be a place named that.

Liberal accumulations of snow, ice, sleet, rain, and freezing rain. Not exactly Chamber of Chaos weather for protesting, and flat out dangerous for everyone.

It will be interesting to see whether or not the city and state employees who pole the streets take the same opportunity the Union thugs in New York did to flex thier muscle.

I kind of hope they do.

Confession: I was spending time on Google looking for “Michelle Obama” + “sit gracefully”, which as all Hamsters know is one of my pet peeves. I’m not alone — there are LOTS of matches. One match had Elena Kagan in the title and the folowing sentence was visible:

Did she go to the same classes on how to sit gracefully that Michelle Obama went to?

So I clicked and the photo and suggested caption at this link are beyond hilarious.

Did you purposfully link to the exact same article I linked to to show how Perkins didn’t link to the article neither you linked to? you rank very high on my propogand-o-meter.

Phony solutions for real social ills is the article Perkins referred to. I think it’
s more of style than propoganda. Human Events articles, at least the ones I’m familiar with, typically do not link to articles that are in discussion. They typically mention the article and present their argument. I find their references accurate and they authors do not hide info from their readers.

Abortions and gays marriage have everything to do with solidifying families in society. Aboortions do as well. Abortions as practiced today by and large are an afront to families and family creation. It’s evil on its face. FRC, as Perkins noted are trying to solidify families, not destroy the unborn or to redefine what marriage should be. Boaz took precise aim at FRC’s efforts in this regard and that is what Perkins was addressing. This is what society always does. they rededine what should be and when accepted, more and more people seek the redefinition of things like family and thus less families as they should be are created.

If Boaz truly does want to help solidify families, why attack a group of people trying to solidify families?

#52/53 Thanks much for that correction. It was my intention to link to the original Boaz piece at Cato, but I goofed, and linked to the Perkins response, which I actually took the trouble to read.

By the way, notice how David Boaz offered no linkie to the Family Research Group’s article he took issue with?

Could you be a bit more specific about which FRC article Boaz was being critical of?

I don’t think you can, because Boaz’s article wasn’t about FRC, it was about social conservatives in general. Perkins apparently took offense at a libertarian calling a spade a spade, and then had the gall to pen a piece to appeal to social conservatives that like to think they’re libertarians.

Perkins response was entirely about single Cato article/Boaz op-ed, and in the interest of honesty, I think he should have included a link to what he was responding to.

I’m glad that you took the time to find the real article Perkins dissed. That’s very encouraging, and I wish that more of Perkins’ readers would do so.

It’s a shame that Perkins didn’t feel it necessary to give his readers all of the information.

Sure I can, I’ll just go ahead and requote your own blockquote in post #31. here Boaz isolated FRC as an example of how dumb social conservatives are due to their unfocused efforts on family fortification:

    You’re welcome.

Perkins apparently took offense at a libertarian calling a spade a spade,

No, Perkins corrected Boaz’s incorrect assertion that gay marriage/rights and abortions “have nothing to do” with strengthening marriage. They do and in a very direct way.

and then had the gall to pen a piece to appeal to social conservatives that like to think they’re libertarians.

When did Perkins do that? Human Events like to think they’re conservative, not libertarians. ann Coulter’s featured on there for crying out loud and she can’t stand modern-day libertarians.

Perkins response was entirely about single Cato article/Boaz op-ed, and in the interest of honesty, I think he should have included a link to what he was responding to.

I don’t. While I very much appreciate links, the lack thereof does not make an article any more propagandist than it would otherwise.

It’s a shame that Perkins didn’t feel it necessary to give his readers all of the information.

Good morning Hamsters. Fortunately the southerly breeze kept dense fog–or any fog–away from us overnight. Just the now-customary humidity and 63 at 6, but a gorgeous show in the sky with clouds briskly passing over the almost-full Moon’s face and stars in the distance. They were filmy things barely seen on approach, translucent while crossing her, then once more filmy ghosts rapidly departing.

Overcast and windy all morning, live oak leaves swirling and bouncing on a whim, their once dark green faded to mousy beige. Starkly abandoned branches must come to them as well, though not as long as for other trees long bare before Spring’s green appears. Winter is teasing now and not yet ready to release his grasp.

And speaking of Winter, the forecast for Madison is nasty. Weather Service is talking in terms of alternating snow and ice accumulations, wind gusts up to 30 mph, windchills in the minus range for the next few days. Guess that eliminates the protesting for now. It pretty much eliminates anybody being able to get around. Wonder what the inside of the truly gorgeous Capitol looks like now…. Maybe there will be pictures on the net anyway.

I assume prisoners not having computer abilities using the library on their cases do not get to actually go to the physical building for the research and rely on mailings, why can’t the information be printed from online and sent to them?

Much more is happening in Wisconsin than the MSM is reporting since they focus more on the aggrieved teachers and other state union employees and the runaway scrape of the 14 Democrat state Senators to Illinois. Other than a Tea Party counterprotest on Saturday in Madison, it’s easy to get the impression that the rest of the state must be more passive on the matter. Not so. The New Media are up and running with info, blogs, Fox, Breitbart ( was a speaker at the TP rally). Citizens are furious all over the state. There have been suggestions to petition for recall elections of the 14 and/or impeachment that have lots of support. The general flavor of what’s happening can be seen on these two

What happens in Wisconsin is a big worry for the Obamabots regarding the position of government employee unions. States that also have new conservative governors and legislatures are ready to enact similar measures as Wisconsin as part of getting their fiscal houses off the brink of bankruptcy.

    An update on Righthaven scumbottomsuckingfeeders.

A reminder of what we need to do / what can be done:

    * One, avoid the media outlets listed above like the plague. You can actually set your browser to reject loading any material from these sites. Instruction for several different browsers can be found here.
    * Two, if you run a blog or forum, do a search on your own site for the papers listed above to make sure you haven’t used any of their material in the past. If you have, delete the material immediately or reduce the excerpt to no more than a sentence or two. There is such a thing as fair use even if Righthaven doesn’t like it.
    * Third, you can register what is known as a DCMA takedown agent with the US Copyright Office. This only requires filling out a one page form and paying $100 fee. Theoretically, any site which has done this is insulated from suits aimed at commenters (or forum posters) and, just as important, you should be given notice to remove material prior to any lawsuit being filed. If that sounds like a good deal to you, Wired explains how to go about it here.
    * Fourth, you can find out which articles Righthaven is buying (and thus planning lawsuits around) by going to the US Copyright Public Catalog and doing a search. Instructions are here. Here’s what it looks like.
    * Fifth, you might consider making a donation to EFF. They’ve led the charge against these shakedown lawsuits.

Just a reminder – if we want to keep warming Hammy’s Comfy Couch, we need to remain vigilant.

A list of media to avoid is here.

Why Tim, don’t you have have a favorite ST costume? I saw a picture of her that someone posted one time — I think it was on LST — and she is gorgeous. Like all Mama Grizzlies!

She is gorgeous, in an Ellie Mae kinda way. (i.e.- your likely to come out bloodier than the effort was worth). 😀

I feel much better today knowing that I’m helping Moochelle and her underprivileged children enjoy a ski vacation in Vail while her husbands union goons continue to disrupt schools in Wisconsin. I’m wondering if Moochelle’s kids are getting one of those phony doctor notes in order to be excused from their school?
