FOOD AS WEAPONS
Not exactly the food fight you are envisioning, a la Animal House, but I found this interesting:

The Iranian mullahs are constantly trying to beat back “western influences,”  whether its western fashion or western ideas.  But Iranian TV has now issued rules which declare that cooking shows,  yes,  cooking shows,  are not to teach Iranians how to cook pasta, pizza, or other western dishes. … Apparently western cooking shows are popular in Iran.  These new rules are silly, of course. How will teaching someone to cook lasagna undermine the regime?  To me,  the story is indicative of how desperate the Iranian regime has become.  If you begin to fear pasta, it shows how much confidence you really lack. Once you start viewing food as a subversive influence,  you are sunk.

Ah, yes, pizza and hamburgers are a threat to a nuclear power.  Ahmadinnerjacket can beat his chest all he wants, but the cock of the walk is afraid of becoming chicken soup.

Well, that’s a good thing that the Ifraidians are threatened by Pasta, Pizza, and western cooking shows. Our troops eat Pasta and Pizza, and it’s a fair wager that our female troops could kick Ifraidian cans with cooking utensils as well as with standard armaments.

Sounds like communism which is a brother to Islam, one uses the state as a reason to enslave people the other Allah and Mohamed .Both use fear and intimidation to control the people.

Why shouldn’t they fear pasta?

This is a great study in Israeli propaganda. I see where this is being promoted actively by Israelis and their fellow travelers all over the Internet – and the SOURCE link above has a misspelling in it…and that is being copied around, too. Propagation of errors. I wonder if there is a retraction there will be as much publicity?

This is further evidence that we Europeans and European Americans must come to the realization that our individualist, libertarian tradition is fundamentally at odds with pretty much the entire rest of the world, especially the Middle East–all the Middle East.
The take-away is we must act to prevent the influx of other peoples, especially those with quite different political proclivities. Equally important is the fact that these people aren’t going to become individualistic or democratic any time soon.

At this time it’s unclear how the move will affect the many restaurants throughout Iran the U.S. that offer fast food and “Western” menus that include hamburgers, hotdogs, pizzas and pastas.

Earlier, Iranian U.S. authorities declared a war on cigarettes, banning television channels from airing shows and films that feature smoking.

This is funny. The fact that they seem surprised is even more funny. The fact that they’re trying to rationalize it away is just sad.

“This is a statistically impossible lack of diversity,” Dr. Haidt concluded, noting polls showing that 40 percent of Americans are conservative and 20 percent are liberal. In his speech and in an interview, Dr. Haidt argued that social psychologists are a “tribal-moral community” united by “sacred values” that hinder research and damage their credibility — and blind them to the hostile climate they’ve created for non-liberals.

“Anywhere in the world that social psychologists see women or minorities underrepresented by a factor of two or three, our minds jump to discrimination as the explanation,” said Dr. Haidt, who called himself a longtime liberal turned centrist. “But when we find out that conservatives are underrepresented among us by a factor of more than 100, suddenly everyone finds it quite easy to generate alternate explanations.”

Can’t be teaching those women how to cook. Next thing you know they will want to learn how to read or how to formulate an opinion on something. Who knows, they might even get tired of being mutilated or decapitated if they don’t mind their master. Just can’t have that you know. Heck, we let them start voting over here a while back and look what has happened to our country as a result – all touchy, feely good stuff with no logic or reasoning behind it.

Um, I think they’ll opt for the traditional Catholic mass. Thanks for the offer.

The reception might be more interesting, though…

They’ll be looking at reception venues this month or next month. They think they have a place picked out, but of course it all depends upon the availability of both the venue and the church before they can pick a date.

And I think Mommy is supposed to give her official blessing on the wedding gown before LD will order it. That happens in the next few months, when she can spend a weekend at home, and we’re hoping MIL will be able to be here as well.

I cannot post her wedding dress picture, as she is keeping the gown a secret from Aggie Beau. He is not supposed to know what the dress looks like until she is walking down the aisle. Until then, she is telling him it’s a big muffin-type of dress, possibly with pirate sleeves, etc.

She has a little bit of her mother in her, what can I say?

Tedtam, The Gown is the FIRST big hurdle, how long did it take her to find it? I took Daughter months. I don’t know when the wedding is, but you have to book the venue pretty early because they go fast. I’ve mentioned it here before, but we really liked the Butlers Court Yard. If you click on the link and watch the movie, “Nancy Richards” is a Drill Sargent and did a very good job coordinating the event. The “White House Ranch” where the Boy got married was very pretty but the staff wasn’t nearly as good as the Butlers Courtyard.

Up on Drudge, Mandatory Arabic to be taught in TEXAS school. WTF

MANSFIELD (CBSDFW.COM) – Some Students at Mansfield ISD schools could soon be learning Arabic as a required language. The school district wants students at select schools to take Arabic language and culture classes as part of a federally funded grant.

The Foreign Language Assistance Program (FLAP) grant was awarded to Mansfield ISD last summer by the U.S. Department of Education.

As part of the five-year $1.3 million grant, Arabic classes would be mandatory at Cross Timbers Intermediate School and Kenneth Davis Elementary School. The program would also be optional for students at T. A. Howard Middle School and Summit High School.

That guy who got slashed at the cockfight died at the hospital yesterday. The overwhelming majority of the story commenters say that his death was richly deserved. One speculates that probably the reason the guy died is that none of the other subhumans took him to the hospital in time to save his life. Just let him bleed out rather than have to explain to the authitahs how it happened.

I like Herman Cain too, from the times I’ve heard him sub for Neal Boortz. While he has the right philosophical underpinnings, he doesn’t have the standing or credentials to make it in a primary, much less the election. I don’t think he would even be especially valuable as VP on the ticket. If it has to be a black conservative, I think Condi Rice has a lot more going for her. (I am still mourning that JC Watts dropped out of politics.)

More proof that the French suck.

I’m selling some old military crap on Ebay. On the WW2 stuff, I get a lot of inquiries from collectors overseas asking what the shipping will be. I do this in addition to my real work, and if I sell overseas I have to pay the exhorbitant price AND go to the Post Office to fill out the Customs paperwork. I add a few bux to the price of shipping to cover the hassle and time it takes.

So Pierre emails me and asks what the shipping on a WW2 Raincoat will be. I tell him $60.00 ($45 Int’l Priority, plus $15 ME money). He goes ahead and bids, wins the auction. I send him an invoice. Now he says if I don’t lower the shipping to $40, he’s not going to pay.

    Freakin terdnozzle.

I offered it to the second highest bidder—in Czecho-freakin-vakia.

Speaking of the supposed prophet, I get a couple of days off next week to celebrate his birthday. I am going to take a vacation day and make it a 5 day weekend. I am looking forward to the time off since I will not get another holiday off until August. Don’t worry about me stressing out at work though, I will still take plenty of vacation time off during the next 6 months.

RE the required Arabic lessons. If they changed it to an optional foreign language, I would could get behind that idea. My two oldest kids are getting mandatory French and Arabic lessons. Since they are at the elementary level though, they are learning at a snails pace. Of course if those kids in Mansfield take the course seriously, they could keep studying the language and then go work for the CIA when they grow up:-)

It’s supposed to be a bad omen if the groom sees the bride in her wedding dress before the wedding ceremony. Now who came up with that I don’t know. Maybe it’s a relic of arranged marriages wherein the parties haven’t met previously. (Now that is a scary way to pair off.)

However, spouse saw my dress several months before our wedding when we drove some 150 miles to my cousin’s home for a fitting. She made my dress. He didn’t see me in it before the ceremony though.

I want to be buried in my wedding dress.

Thousands of dollars for a dress that you wear ONE WISSING TIME and then you put in storage for your daughter to possibly wear (which is never going to happen, not no how – not no way) . You wind up hauling that thing around your whole life then it winds up in a re-sale shop and a tranny winds up buying it for it’s special someone. I really don’t get it. A guy rents the tux and give the thing back and never misses it for a moment.

Boney, I agree with the above. You are obviously a hopeless romantic.

Actually, my dress was bought at a store that was going out of business. Paid $200 + $25 for matching shoes. Kept it for Lovely, but it’s not her style. When she was little, though, she would ask to see my “marry dress”. Somewhere I might have a picture of a little girl being swallowed up in white lace.

My wedding to Hubby was around $3000, including the honeymoon. I worked for an airline at the time, and managed to snag a deal for our honeymoon to the Virgin Islands. Our reception was at the Lion’s Club hall down the street from the church. Not fancy, but family and friends were all we needed to make the event special, just don’t get me started on my brother who stopped my receiving line because he didn’t like the way it was set up. Arrrgggh. We stayed one night at a hotel near IAH, since our flight left early in the morning. One thing that I hadn’t thought of was asking the hotel if we could leave our vehicle there for the week that we’d be gone. They only made us sign a waiver, and it saved us a ton in parking fees.

You have to remember, generally speaking, the wedding is for the bride. The honeymoon is more for the groom. They both look forward to both rituals, but there is something about the wedding ceremony that is more female oriented. I remember the sadness I felt when I took off my gown. Hubby wasn’t upset at all, though. 😀

    Hmmmm, I think I said,

I was in no way, shape, or form, questioning your praenthood. I was just brining to light the stupidity of your drug statement.

Previous to that I made the citation you referred to and then you go off and direct my attention to your ass. That doesn’t make any sense to me, especially from someone who has repeatedly kicked others in the crotch under the defense of them not providing any evidence to make their claim. If talking about your ass is supposed to show how my statement regarding the availibility of drugs is in error then I stand in serious comprehensin skills because for the life of me I cannot connect those dots.

Talking about your rump does make sense if you gleaned that I was qestioning your parenting skills however. Let me reiterate: I WAS NOT. despite the fact that you have countlessly defamed others here and conservatives at large (and belittling them based on your vaccum of understanding from where they are coming from -Huffpost, dude, Huffpost), I was not in any way, shape or form, attacking your parenting, nor even questioning it. After making this fact clear in my #86 post I began to be confused by your previous statement.

I don’t think high schoolers should use cannabis, alcohol, or tobacco. Trouble is, cannabis retailers have no incentive to check IDs.

That doesn’t seem to corrborate with your saying that you let your kids drink in the house while presumatively they were still in high school. Now, if your belief is that minors may drink under your supervision, then so be it. I’m not at all interesting in judging your parenting skill, I just needed some clarification.

So, if you can show, especially with your vast shirt-based experience, how buying weed is easier than buying booze, I’d appreticate it for I find it an utterly stupid belief to hold. And remember I’m coming from, first, the perspective that one can just as easily buy booze from as drug dealer than they can buying the drugs in the first place. The only reason, therefore, that the drugs would be “easier” is that the by is actively looking to buy drugs from the dealer. And, second, a minor-aged person can jeasily open their fridge, grab a cold one and chuck it typically a lot quicker than contacting a dealer somewhere, anywhere really, outside the home.

Fly with it bob, the challenge is in front of you, but typically when your challenged directly, bob, you stop flying and walk with something else to talk about.

Under California law, false advertising occurs when any business or business representative seeks to induce the public to enter into any obligation by making a statement about its own products or services, or the products or services of others, that is false or misleading and that the business knew, or should have known, was false or misleading.

So, basically anything that is inaccurate is up for a lawsuit.

So, basically anything that is inaccurate is up for a lawsuit

So if a witch says you’re gonna rich and don’t, but you get rich after the lawsuit, does the witch get a refund. Does a witch ever predict good things or are all of them doom?

Oooh, sounds a bit vindictive 😀

Reminds me of a story my friend told 20 years ago. She was the Mom in a Mom & Pop petroleum engineering services company. Pop had bought a big fast line printer that was so noisy that even closed up in the equipment room, it was deafening when it printed their monthly accounting reports. So he commissioned a special soundproof enclosure for it, that not only cost more than the printer itself, but doors had to be taken off their hinges to get this big box into the office suite and into the equipment room. She told me she was going to bury him in that box. (He’s gone now, and she didn’t.)

Folks here may remember Sarah Palin’s (very clever and funny) “WTF” moment regarding the State of the Union speech.

Sarah Palin waited exactly one night to launch a pointed attack on the president’s State of the Union address, laced with creative imagery, and creative history. Appearing on “On the Record” with Greta Van Susteren, the former Alaska governor said, “it was a tough speech to sit through and try to stomach.”

She mocked the president’s slogan of “Winning the Future.”

She noted the initials are “WTF” and then observed there were “a lot of WTF moments through that speech.” For the uninitiated, “WTF” is what the kids often use in short-hand to signify, “What the…”

    LINK

Well, Michelle Malkin has recently posted something on Joe Biden:

At Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station, Biden referred repeatedly to the apparent new White House motto.

    Out: Winnning the future.

    In: SEIZE THE FUTURE.

Just a bit down we read:

Erick Erickson tweets: “So instead of WTF for win the future is it STFU for seize the future?”

I will not talk about Daughter’$ wedding, except to $ay it wa$ EXPEN$IVE,…well to a farm Boy from Alabama. That said, She was worth it! When I got married I, like tedtam, worked for an airline, we flew stand-by to Hawaii for the Honeymoon, and got our room for half price because of the airline discount. The wedding was at our Baptist Church and had the reception in the basement, the aunts made the munches. What I do remember was that the most expensive thing was the pictures, $413 in 1975! Oh and my Bride had her Sister-in-Law make her dress and it was pretty steep ($200) considering it was home made.

Between meetings this morning, I’ve been listening to an hour long presentation as I do mundane filing and SQL queries. It’s your good buddy, PZ Myers at Skepticon 3 from last fall in Springfield Missouri.

The kids in his classes are lucky to have him for a Biology prof. He’s a talented instructor. In this presentation, he uses entertaining analogies to the game of poker to demonstrate the basic concepts of evolution and genetic mutations.

Don’t worry, he doesn’t say anything vile offensive to religion. However, he does have “sex” on stage with a willing volunteer from the audience.

Linkies are nuked by blockquotes, so here’s the the lecture I was referring to. The man makes absolutely no mention of abortion, at all.

I don’t defend Myers position on abortion. I merely pointed out that he’s a smart dude and a talented teacher. There’s a difference. Maybe y’all just don’t care to discern.

If you would do your homework you might learn that year after year high schoolers report that it is easier to obtain Buds than Budweiser or Marlboro. That is a freaking fact, whether you like it or not.

[There goes bob4(notansweringaninquiry)2 ranting about doing my homeowrk. Perhaps if I wasn’t so caught up in my dominionism I may one day become like bob and do my homework sometime.]

So, bob, as of yet you can’t quite explain, even from your vast, shirt-based, experience how buying weed is easier than buying liquor. Yuo frequently run away when confronted directly: a tactic I find very frequent with Left-leaning thinkers. It’s an easy process, bob, especially for someone with a self-proclaimed superior knolwedge on the issue of drugs. You state quite frequently that marijuana is easier to buy than alcohol. You even stupidly conducted an experience where you went ot a bar (ahem) to “prove” that you can buy marijuana easily. So, could you go to a bar and buy weed easier than, let’s say, oh, a beer? (I’m even giving you a big openeing to prove your case on that one. Take the chance, bob).

I wuz a high schooler once and as one I learned first hand that one could easily buy drugs and alcohol during their age. and, no, I NEVER bought either, nor have I ever used either. But the question at hand is your proclamation that it’s “easier” to buy the illegal drug than the legal-but-not-for-minors beer. I ask how exactly and you say…nothing.

Darwood, it is illegal for minors to purchase tobacco, alcohol, or cannabis. Yet they often report that it is easier to obtain the latter of the three. Those are the facts. If you chose to remain willfully ignorant of those facts, that it your choice, and I respect your right to make such an ill informed decision. I merely ask that you don’t impose that ignorance on others, because doing so causes demonstrable harm.

You’re becoming a bad influence on me. I’m yet again considering going out, scoring some bud from a total stranger, and live blogging here as I smoke it, just to prove how futile your war on a plant is.

At best, cannabis prohibition is a very expensive joke.

I married Mrs. Bonecrusher 4 months after our 1st date
We have been married for 16 years and counting
We were married by her then brother-in-law (now deceased) in sister and brother in law’s apartment accompanied by their youngest who was about 2 at the time and their family dog
    Yes, we eloped
Ring cost was a total of $100 for both at a pawn shop, hers was later embelished by a 1ct diamond.
Honeymoon was at the Alsatian Inn in Castroville, TX (just west of San Antonio on hwy 90) and was paid by her employer
