Where were you and what were you doing 25 years ago yesterday?
Of course, simply remembering those who died in that accident is insufficient for some. There are those who see a conspiracy in everything.

I can’t see the video but I’ll assume that you’re speaking of the Challenger disaster. I was @ work, (NASA) and since I didn’t watch the launches often I missed this one. One of my co-workers went down to the conference room to watch the launch and came running out into the lab to say that the shuttle had exploded on take off.

Hello,…Is everyone still in bed?
-A year after the Challenger disaster I spent the whole month of February at Edwards AFB in California testing the Crew Escape Pole with a group on Navy jumpers in a C-141. I left Houston late in January and got back the first week in March. As a side bar, one of our pilots was “Jackie Parker” who was the first American Woman to Become Combat Qualified in the F-16. This was her next assignment after the Crew Escape Pole tests. -

I don’t remember hearing of Jackie Parker before, but from your link in #3 (it works for me), I would say she was genius-level smart! -

I was headed up to East Texas somewhere to work on a broke drilling rig when Challenger went down. Driving back to Houston in the wee hours, I remember searching the radio broadcasts for answers.

I was at work at one of the small companies that I mentioned yesterday, where I briefly had a jerk boss. This was pre-internet, pre-cell phone, so I didn’t know about it until some co-workers got back from an early lunch and they heard the news on the car radio.
I always got the creeps from seeing film of the explosion, at the point where the cloud shoots off two curving arms like some devil’s pitchfork.

On the day I am to be Baptized, I find this article.
Enter the words “Lanciano, Italy” and “Eucharistic Miracle” into a search engine, and you will read a true story about a miracle the church has studied and called “worthy of belief.” In about 700 A.D., a monk, celebrating in the Greek Rite and using leavened bread, had doubts about the True Presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist. When he said the words of consecration the bread and wine turned into human flesh, and blood in his hands. This miracle can still be seen today—the flesh has not decayed. The blood has coagulated into five pieces of different sizes, which correspond with the five wounds of Jesus on the Cross.
In 1971, scientific studies were conducted on these relics by Dr. Odoardo Linoli. He concluded that the flesh is real flesh, and the blood is real blood; both flesh and blood belong to the human species; the flesh consists of the muscular tissue of the heart complete in its essential structure. Both flesh and blood have the same blood type—AB positive.
AB positive is the “universal recipient” of blood types. In John 12:32 Jesus did say, “And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself.” He was lifted up on the cross. He draws everyone to himself, in the blood.

This is a very good slam. Beck even quotes Fredrick Douglas (one of my favorite historical figures) regarding the Constitution and racism:
I defy the siblge presentation of a pro-slavery clause in the Constitution. Interpreted as it ought to be interpreted, the Constitution is a glorious liberty document.

A blind man visiting Kissimmee for a convention lost his seeing-eye dog. The dog’s owner, Jeff Bazer, said Devon got spooked during Tuesday night’s storms and hasn’t been seen since.

Mubarak’s family reported departed for England—–again.
According to the Al Jazeera news channel, there are reports that the Egyptian President’s wife Suzanne Mubarak has left for London. It is unclear who is the source for this report. Al Jazeera reported earlier that Mubarak’s two sons, Gamal and Ala, have arrived in London with their families, escaping Egypt as result of the unrest. (Roee Nahmias)
All this does is underscore the fact that the earlier reports were incorrect—they just can’t keep departing Egypt over and over again without getting somewhere and returning coming back. Its not unusual for revolutionaries to spread rumors like this, especially in the environment Egypt is in right now. The government has clamped down on media, so there’s not much of an opportunity to confirm or deny. The opposition can claim momentum towards victory and there are enough people out there who want something to be true, or think their greatest fears are being realized, to spread them. Its the main reason that TV stations are targets. If they can get on national TV and radio, they can start boradcasting false reports of victory to demoralize their enemy and energize their proponents.

OK “Tea Partiers” you are free to call yourselves “libertarian” and “small government” all day long. But when you boo a proven fiscal conservative, you look like a bunch of angry, loud, social conservative authoritarian hypocrites to me.
I attended a Tea Party rally this morning in Santa Fe held on the steps of the state capital building. The keynote speaker was former Governor Gary Johnson who is rumored to be running for president. Gary is highly regarded in the state for his outstanding leadership during two terms as governor. He slashed the size of state government during his term and left the state with a large budget surplus. His speech brought enthusiastic applause from the sparse crowd. Governor Johnson should have stopped while he was ahead.
When Tea Party members were invited to ask questions, someone asked the governor if he supported legalization of marijuana. Gary responded that he did. His remarks brought a chorus of boos from the crowd. Gary went on to make the case for legalization based on the cost of incarcerating pot smokers, but the crowd wasn’t having it. The boos erupted again. Some members of the crowd began to heckle the former governor. Lesson learned, I hope.Real libertarians, such as Milton Friedman (or William F. Buckley Jr.) would likely have no desire to associate with today’s tea partiers, at all. And neither do I.
I readily grant that the ethical issue is difficult and that men of goodwill may well disagree. Fortunately, we need not resolve the ethical issue to agree on policy. Prohibition is an attempted cure that makes matters worse-for both the addict and the rest of us. Hence, even if you regard present policy toward drugs as ethically justified, considerations of expediency make that policy most unwise.

I must chide you for the smiley. How about some sympathy for not only the blind man, but also for his dog who is now lost, scared, and probably hungry? Hope some animal-lover finds him and gets him back to his owner very quickly. -

The smiley was for the line in the story “hasn’t been seen since”. I do hope they find the guy’s dog. It would be bad enough losing just a pet, but losing a true companion like that would be heartbreaking.

I was working at my first job, in the employment office of an airline. I was busy grinding my nose on my personal grindstone when one of the clerks came rushing in announcing that the shuttle had crashed. I don’t remember how the tv appeared, but we had one in the hallway and soon a crowd gathered around. Mharper is right about the pitchfork thing – I always thought that had a slightly evil look to it. It took me a while to fully realize what had happened. I had become complacent about the space program, thinking it had become rather routine. That day I realized that nothing is ever routine, and we are constantly putting our lives into other peoples’ hands all the time. Our mortality is always up for grabs. That day, it was an o-ring, and all the people who made it, installed it, tested it, and monitored it that determined the fate of those astronauts that day. Tomorrow, it may be a piston in my car that goes, or the u-joint, or the tire that causes me to careen off the road; or the elements in the car coming towards me. I may have a gas line in my house fail, or a tree limb may fall on me in my back yard.
Our fate is always being tested.
And that was the lesson I learned on that day, 25 years ago.
May the families of the fallen have found peace by now, and all the engineers and workers who may have felt that they were somewhat responsible; and I hope that this anniversary is not too painful for any of them.

You may find other Eucharistic miracles documented as well. In all of the ones that I have read (not to say I have read them all or that I am a definitive source of Eucharistic miracle information), the flesh has always been heart muscle, and the blood has always been AB+.
As a matter of fact, I saw a documentary recently about some South American scientist who had several pieces of “Eucharistic miracle” tested at an independent lab, not telling them what he was sending them nor where the samples came from. The response was “Where did you get this and how long ago did you take the sample?” It seems the flesh tissue on the slide was still beating.
I wish I could remember where I saw it and the scientist’s name. It bugs me that my memory is so bad.

Last year, I got a new laser printer/scanner/copier/fax. I’ve been pleased with it. It’s fast, quiet, and so far all I’ve had to do is put paper in it. We’ve printed 1500 pages and the “starter” toner cartridge (less toner than the replacement cartridges) is still fine. The photoconductor still shows 95% life left. It’s a good idea to get a printer that uses to different components for toner and photoconductor.
Unfortunately the scanner portion stopped working last week. I’m not thrilled about that, but it’s still under warranty. Although I got in in March, Lexmark’s site shows the warranty is good until April of this year. I call them, and will have a new printer on my doorstep no later than Tuesday, and they’re paying the freight, both ways.
I think thats pretty good support for a $150 printer.

I read Richard Feynman’s (very widely regarded physicist at CalTech, worked at Los Alamos during WWII) account of the investigation of the Challenger accident. He asked some very uncomfortable questions to NASA administrators and interviewed many lower-level engineers and technicians.
NASA had published studies and analyses stating that a loss of vehicle accident would be expected every 100,000 launches (IIRC). Feynman’s analysis showed that a loss of vehicle accident would occur approximately every 100 launches, given NASA’s design, policies, and procedures. He was very, very close to the actual rate.

Good afternoon all. From a cool 51 at 6 we now have a more humid and breezy 73, mostly cloudy with some breaks for faint Sun, and a definite prelude of storms to come. Am busily doing indoor chores so I can make a quick trip to the nursery to get more flower fertilizer and finish fertilizing the last bed before the rains start tonight. The pansies are bountiful and can use a boost for the rest of winter and early spring. Heard but did not see robins early this morning. Happy they are still around for they would have a rude surprise if they began the northward trek right now.
When Challenger exploded I was driving toward Halletsville on Highway 90 to visit a friend and had the radio on for company. The shock of it all coming over the airwaves and landing in my ears was something to not be forgotten, such as recalling where you were when John Kennedy was killed. Agree with mharper about the shape of the explosion seeming like an evil hand at work.
Loved Richard Feynman’s participation on the inquiry committee, for he was a man who didn’t take kindly to obstructions to inquiry and well knew who to ask what to get the most accurate information. Like the downplaying of the engineer’s warning about cold O rings before the launch.

Earlier reports were that the son’s wife & daughter went to England. Apparently the sons both bravely forged a path to London.Actually, the earlier reports said this:
Cairo: Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak’s son, who is considered as his successor, has fled to Britain along with his family, the Times of India reported online quoting a US-based Arabic website.
The plane with Gamal Mubarak, his wife and daughter on board left for London Tuesday from an airport in western Cairo, the website Akhbar Al Arab said, according to the Times website.
The report came as Twitter confirmed late Tuesday that its website was blocked in Egypt, in an apparent move to thwart protesters using the social network in a campaign to oust Mubarak.
That’s what was linked to on Wednesday, and had its orgins in a Debka Files report.
According to an earlier debkafile report, Egyptian and Arabic internet sites were reporting Wednesday that Hosni Mubarak’s son and chosen successor as Egyptian president secretly took himself and family out of the country Tuesday by way of the military airfield in West Cairo at the peak of anti-government riots in Egyptian cities.
Twitter also carried an unconfirmed report that Suzanne Mubarak, Egypt’s first lady, was identified by airport workers on arrival at Heathrow airport, London. No source was cited.
If confirmed, Gemal Mubarak’s defection would attest to deep cracks in the 82-year old president’s regime, the reverse of the prevailing view in the West and Israel that the regime is in no danger of being overthrown by the protest movement sweeping the country. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Tuesday she believed the government was stable. Yet Wednesday, the Egyptian pound fell sharply against the US dollar and the stock market tumbled more than 4 percent.
Note the similarity in those reports of late Tuesday and early Wednesday with those of this morning.
Like I said, they can’t keep departing for London every couple of days.

Ok, now I am intrigued! Both Tedtam and Adee have agreed with me that that the shape of the exploding fragments has an unpleasant or evil effect. I’m wondering if it ever hit any of you men that way when you were viewing the video of the explosion ?

I was on the phone talking to a colleague in Midland when someone came into my office and told me.
My father was an electronics technician for McDonnell Douglas during the Gemini and beginning of the Apollo programs. He was on the launch pad when Grissom, White, and Chaffee were killed. I was nine when that happened and remember watching TV and hearing the announcement. When my dad got home later that night I remember he was surprised that we knew because the information wasn’t supposed to be released yet.
I have a sister that lives in Melbourne Beach and I’ve been lucky enough to be down there for five or six launches. The nighttime ones are the most impressive. She’s about 40 miles south of the Cape so you see the launch then about three minutes later you feel and hear the rumble roll past you. It’s pretty cool. One time I was able to see a launch from a jet as we were approaching the Orlando airport. That was cool too.
Thanks to my dad’s time at NASA, I am in possession of a complete set of Training Graphics manuals for the Saturn S-IVB, which was the 3rd stage for the Saturn V.

In 2003, when Columbia broke apart during re-entry, I was at my home office here in Clear Lake, blogging. My daughter told me about it.

The boy walked to the counter of the Lake City Public Library through a gantlet of stares in 1959.
Ronald E. McNair, then 9, wanted to check out books on advanced science and calculus, but the librarian wouldn’t release them.
That’s the very same Ron McNair who died on the ill-fated Challenger mission.
It’s also the very same Ron McNair who is now the namesake of that very same library.

Darren, they booed his initial answer, and booed yet again when he presented his very sound and rational fiscal conservative argument against your and Dick Nixon’s 40 year old, demonstrably failed war on a plant. Hence their “libertarian” credentials are meaningless to me.
Milton Friedman had awesome ideas but not perfect. Buckley Jr. I think would definitely stand for today’s Tea Party. You really don’t know what you are talking about.
I seriously doubt you’ve read nearly as much WFB-Jr as I have. And I harbor no doubts whatsoever that when it comes to the war on a plant, you are completely authoritarian, irrational, illogical, and too trusting of propaganda fed to you.
We are speaking of a plague that consumes an estimated $75 billion per year of public money, exacts an estimated $70 billion a year from consumers, is responsible for nearly 50 per cent of the million Americans who are today in jail, occupies an estimated 50 per cent of the trial time of our judiciary, and takes the time of 400,000 policemen — yet a plague for which no cure is at hand, nor in prospect.
– – –
Curiosity naturally flows to ask, next, How many users of illegal drugs in fact die from the use of them? The answer is complicated in part because marijuana finds itself lumped together with cocaine and heroin, and nobody has ever been found dead from marijuana.Buckley would likely laugh at this group of authoritarian tea partiers, if he paid them any mind at all, that is.

During O’s press release yesterday he talked about how he chided Mubarak for the disruption in internet services and I immediatly thougt what a phony remark that was since O seeks that exact same power. Well, just to day I read, Committee Passes Plan for Internet ‘Kill Switch’ in Egypt — U.S. . In it we read about the elite Progressives in both parties all too eager to grant the President of the U.S. such powers.
No wonder O made pubic his opposition to Mubarak’s government since it’s now the potential poster child for why government *SHOULD NOT* have such power. The only way to counteract that propaganda (“propaganda” here is in the sense of it being used correctly) from a president who wants such power would be for that president to present himself as a would be responsible stewart of such a power granted to him.

Hence their “libertarian” credentials are meaningless to me.
What about the credentials of a “libertarian” bashing in FOXNews for their successful ratings and defending CNN, MSNBC, etc’s. own news and opinion deliveries against those who attack those news network sites? A “libertarian” would be happy for successful ratings no matter what the reason. Period.
I’m familiar enough with Buckley Jr. to know that he was against the WOD and would be today. But that’s NOT how you presented your statement. You said he would not stand with the Tea Party. That’s different than saying he would oppose their tendency to keep drugs illegal.
Why would Beckley Jr. oppose the Tea Party when they want pretty much what that guy, Guy achieved? Why should Tea Partiers “have to” agree to making drugs legal to remain “libertarian”? BTW, I don’t like libertarianism myself but a Conservative libertarian would be ideal for me. I do not explicitly exclude libertarianism but you on the other hand outright exclude the social cons from any ligitimacy and call people names when you’re called anti-social conservative. This absolutely includes the religious conservatives in our midsts.
Now, what about that Krauthammer guy? Any word on Mike Lee? Hello? Hello? Hellllloooooooo? Bob, you still there? Helllooooooooooooooooooooo?

One more thing on Buckler Jr. National Review (online)has always opposed the War on Drugs, especially on the national level and I think Buckley Jr. had at least a small influence on their inception and mental development over the years. And I really like NRO. Just sayin’, bob.

I met Gary Johnson at a Campaign for Liberty event a month or so ago. No chance at getting elected because of his stance on legalization but he seemed like a pretty good guy. No hesitation when answering questions on any of a number of controversial issues and his record as gov of NM is pretty good. Although that state has a smaller population than Houston, so you have to take that into consideration.
Thing is, during the Q & A session, the questions were dominated by the “drug war”. He tried to steer things in different directions to no avail. I figured out pretty quick that the Campaign for Liberty wasn’t going to have a huge impact. But not before giving them fifty bucks. Live and learn.

Tell ya what Darren, if you agree to read all 7 essays in the linkie I posted above, and at least attempt to provide a rational, non-emotional, and (especially) factual non-anecdotal rebuttal to some of them, I’ll gladly read your response with an open mind. And as a bonus, will read more about this Mike Lee guy that you’re so impressed with, and read more about Krauthammer.
Why should Tea Partiers “have to” agree to making drugs legal to remain “libertarian”?
I don’t think tea partiers “have to” agree to anything, and pointed out above that they are free to call themselves libertarians all day long. I don’t dislike them, I just disagree with some of them.
Likewise, I’m free to consider them factually and mathematically challenged duplicitous pricks with a proud and loud hypocritical viewpoint on the basic tenets of fiscal conservatism, and a tendency to ignore fiscal impropriety in favor of social conservative authoritarianism for the sake of authoritarianism alone.

I agree with your ongoing position that the Tea Party shopuld not allow social conservatism dominate their agenda. That they should focus on fiscal conservatism if they want to contine to make a big impact in elections. Poor Gary was placed in a tight situation and did his best. Unofrtunately for him the more openly honest politicians get, the less likely they are to be elected. -

WOW! 😯 . You obviously don’t read much yourself, even your own posts:
you look like a bunch of angry, loud, social conservative authoritarian hypocrites to me…Real libertarians, such as Milton Friedman (or William F. Buckley Jr.) would likely have no desire to associate with today’s tea partiers, at all. And neither do I.
I stand by my position about you, bob. Contradicting your own declared positions has become all too habitual for you.

I’m a slow reader, especially when I’m to allow the meaning of a given script to sink in. Mike Lee, however, is not a long read, if bob truly cares to learn.

you are free to call yourselves “libertarian” and “small government” all day long.
But when you boo a proven fiscal conservative, you look like a bunch of angry, loud, social conservative authoritarian hypocrites to me.

One fact I will concede in regard to the WoD is that for a politician to advocate against it is a sure kiss of political death. There are reasons for that, and they’re related to the legitimate money trail and political power, but I’ll not bore y’all with details tonight. (Thank me later.)
I’d be happy if more politicians would agree that a rational discussion of drug policies is called for. At least that would be a start.

This’ll only take a little more than 12, minutes of your life and requires no reading at all. just listen and take out the single most reacurring theme Lee mentions. This is why I like him so much. More than any other elected official Lee hits on that point and with absolute personal conviction that it is the correct view of government.

Darren, Lee won the primary with 51% of the vote, and benefited greatly from the tea party phenomenon. It was a very respectable performance for a “virgin” politician. Not too surprisingly, he nailed the general election with a much greater margin. Utah is an indelibly red, largely social conservative state.
Christine O’Donnell could have won in Utah.

OK I’m a Redneck, so I’ll say you AIN’T GONNA believe this $#1t. I worked today, we made a lot of
racket noise152 Db of random acoustical energy, I.E. white noise tuned with digital notch filters. On the way home I get a phone call, I don’t know who it is because no name shows up and then the guy on the other end proceeds to tell me that his Dad flew with my Dad in a WW II. To say I’m intrigued would be an understatement. We talked for almost an hour, and his Dad was a navigator and my Dad was a recon mapping photographer. His Dad is still kicking but in poor health @ 89. My Dad died in 2000 2 months before his 79 th birthday. BUTT the interesting part of this story is the guy found me; he saw my Dad’s plane on my photo page and LQQked through all my pictures and somehow connected my Boy to me and found him on Facebook. He called the store where my Boy used to work and they told him to call the store on Spencer and my Boy told him my number! The internet is just Dayaamed amazing! I got his number and I’m going to do my best to meet him and his Dad. Oh,…and he lives in the Addicks area, west Houston! Is it a small world or what! -
Wowzie, that house in Memorial is, is, is …different. Something about taste being all in the mouth.
Reminds me of the Doris Day-Rock Hudson comedy movie in which he the playboy cad was trying to date and seduce her, and through crossed phone lines he could hear her conversations. She spurned his phone advances, and the only way he could meet her was to hire her to redecorate his apartment. An boy howdy did she when she discovered who he was. When finished the place looked like a screaming upper income bordello/man cave complete with huge moose head and the most garish, gaudy things and wild color schemes. If I recall correctly the movie was Pillow Talk. It’s a hoot and worth trying to find in some archive.

Won’t do your homework for you. No,. just kidding, i just had to get that out. I provided links several times during my Mike Lee praise on LST and here. Obviously you never read them, at least with an open mind (calling yourself closed-minded is also progress, we’re doing good today). The first link I provided of Lee on Lone Star Times was from none other than Buckley Jr.’s offspring, National Review Online”.
Lee’s constitutionalist scruples lead him to oppose federal laws that other conservatives favor. He does not support federal legislation to reform medical-malpractice laws. Nor does he believe that purely intrastate drug offenses should be against federal law. That’s not legalization, says the former federal prosecutor; it’s just federalism. (He also says that rolling back those laws is “maybe not where I’d start” pruning back Leviathan.)
By far Lee’s position is the best I can find on any elected official. Also, so much for the absolutism regarding your money trail and social conservative authoritarianism. Many social conservatives, even the talk show hosts from Limbaugh, to Beck (another social con you have no clue as to what his positions are), to Levin, to Hewitt have spoken very highly of Lee and have offered NO opposition to his position on the WOD.

#76 Super Dave, that is an awesome story. Thanks to technology, the world is indeed shrinking.
Using various social networking sites I’ve been able to re-establish connections with high school
sweetheartsfriends, a dude that drummed in our first garage band and later went on to a successful radio career and helped me get into that industry, and another dude who actively reached out to me simply to offer thanks for helping get him started (I’d forgotten all about it) in radio. Frank is a natural, has a great set of pipes, and can play the heck out of a B3.All of that is useful and enjoyable, but the greatest benefit to the peer to peer communications the internet offers is its ability to enable free speech and free association to peoples suffering under oppressive governments.
Despots and dictators fear free and open communications far more than they do bombs. I think this is a good thing.

#78 Darren, I did read your linkies from days gone by, but am still uncertain of Lee’s positions. Is it accurate to say that your buddy Mike is an advocate for the complete elimination of any and all federal laws prohibiting the possession or interstate commerce of the prohibited plant? If such is the case, I’ll give him a standing-O on that point alone.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; the internet is the modern day printing press, not everything you find will be true, some of what you find will be nasty, BUTT there is a wealth of information out there and a person sitting at his computer can run it through his BS filter and decide what is good/bad/true/false you can’t do this with the Lame Stream Media because after they strain it through their

I want to thank TedTam for coming to River Pointe tonight to witness my Testimony and Baptism—and to anyone else who might have come whom I did not get a chance to bump into. Its amazing to think that we have “known” each other for a couple of years, but never actually met until now. That you would drive such a long way to see a humble sinner repent—and a Protestant one at that—shows that you are truly a treasure and gentle soul, and that my life is better for having known you.
Its also a “God thing” that we did meet. Usually Karen and I go immediately out the door, but this evening she had bought me a tee shirt as a “birthday” gift then realized she had gotten the wrong size and we went out to the lobby to exchange it—-otherwise we’d not have seen each other.
Thanks again to those of you here who have shared your belief and faith. You’ll never really know how much that has helped me understand and to make this decision.

I want to thank TedTam for coming to River Pointe tonight to witness my Testimony and Baptism—and to anyone else who might have come whom I did not get a chance to bump into. My summarized impression of Bob’s passionate interest in legalized pot is this: he wants to get stoned a lot himself, and he doesn’t really believe, or maybe even care, that unrestrained stoners may kill us by their DUI driving.
Or other impaired behavior. I hate it when some drunk falls asleep while smoking and burns down the house or apartment building, killing innocent people and their kids.
(Someone will no doubt call me a hater for this post.)

TT, what a nice thing to do for Sarge! If you hadn’t met before, how did you know each other? (I’ll refrain from guessing. 🙂 )

Aw, it was nothing. I really wanted to go. It was all I could do not to spike the nearest Bible when he took the plunge. 😉
I didn’t know if I was going to be able to find him in the crowd, especially since I didn’t know my way around the building. His ‘stache was the tipoff in the crowd. I recognized it from his testimony. I called out “Sarge” over the crowd noise and he turned around, confirming my guess. I practically threw myself at him, hugging him in my happiness for him. Karen seems to be a lovely lady. She certainly took my hugs in stride and didn’t ask “Just WHO is this woman who can’t keep her hands off you?” 😀

Sweetie has a good friend out in California whose 15 yr old son made it to NASCAR’s Toyota All-Star Showdown televised on SpeedChannel tonight. It is the Super Bowl, or more fitting, the Daytona 500 for local short track racers. His big TV debut, he spun and hit the wall on the 2nd lap. That had to have hurt (ego), poor kid.
Doesn’t sound like we’ve heard the last of him though, he’s pretty good and daddy has contacts.

I find people like bob take up causes without any thought whatsoever as to the ramafications to teir cause. Many of those who support dropping the WOD at a whim think they are so absolutely right that any oposition, even intelligent opposition as we’ve seen several times here and on Lone Star Times is to be marginalized by various means and impede any consideration as to why the opposition may be correct or even consider that they may be correct at least in something.
Buit let us summarize the results of today’s events.
(1) Bob admitted that he is a “duplicitous prick”
(2) Bob let known that he does not read my posts (and by implication other’s posts) contra the legalization of drugs with an open mind.
(3) Bob cheers Mike Lee’s position on WOD and by doing so he may get a small glimps that not all social conservatives are for the federal government cracking down on drug possession and therefore shows how much, to use the enlightend words Mrs. Darren would, what a dumbsh*t he has shown himself to be.I’d say it’s been a good session today with Dr. Darren.

Duplicitous Darren, I have indeed read your linkies and do look forward to federal legislation initiated by Mike Lee that will eliminate the inappropriate laws the federal government has forced upon the several states.

We’ll see how that goes. Lee’s very pragmatic as well as idealistic. He has both short and long term goals to approach issues. My guess is that Lee’s top priorities do not include eradicating the WOD. In fact, doing such could take away significant politcal capital and thus impede curtailing other federal legislation like OCare. If this is how he thinks, I could not agree with him more but the man does believe everything he says. I’ve zero reason to think otherwise.

Bob, eliminating WoD at the federal level would not mean that the several states are going to legalize pot. Most states would not, and you know it. Because their responsible voting citizens are against drug use. So don’t hold your breath.

#96 Harper, there is a huge difference between being against drug use and being in favor of policies that cause more harm than good. Naturally, authoritarians have trouble recognizing that difference.
At least when the blue nosed goons attempted to prohibit alcohol they did so in a constitutionally respectful manner. The same can certainly not be said for your war on a stupid plant.

OK, no more drug war rants, for today at least.
I’ve concluded that my older daughter either doesn’t mind wearing dirty clothes (very unlikely) or that she’s found a BF with his own washer and dryer. She usually comes by once a week, does several loads and chats with the cats and me.
It’s been two weeks since I’ve seen her, but I’m not worried. She’s been bumping her Facebook page regularly, and we’ve traded text msgs. Most folks presume her to be shy, but she’s actually just very contemplative, and a deep thinker that looks before she leaps. So I have to wonder what the story is behind this picture she posted last night.
Anyone up for a caption contest?
As her dad, I’m obligated to offer some slightly embarrassing commentary on it, but not so extreme as to cause her to “un-friend” me. -

Good morning all. Dampish 60 at 6 and light sprinkles that came and went. Seems the weather folks’ dire storm predictions have not materialized, at least not in the Houston area. The Chronicle came double bagged, with the outer bag tied in a knot at the end to keep it dry. The effort is appreciated. Good for the brave souls doing the marathon anyway and for all the support help and spectators.
Now in the matter of the Arctic blast on the way, that is likely to fulfill prognostications just to be perverse. Large pots of angel wing begonias that usually grace the patio under the live oak in front of the garden room are still next to the house under the covered patio along with all potted plants except the pansies that can take the cold and snap back. The covered patio is kinda crowded now, but better that than hauling heavy pots in and out several times before we’re past the really cold nights–whenever that might be.
Yea for Tedtam attending Sarge’s baptism last night.

So I’m watching a special on the North American Auto Show on channel 2. Ignoring the “green” propaganda so popular with trendy dirtbags and the “miraculous” recovery of GM (forgetting the $88 billion debt they got to write off), how on earth does a car win the Truck of the Year award?

What’s incredible is that the only credible information coming out of Egypt is from Al Jazeera…..The Egyptian authorities are revoking the Al Jazeera Network’s licence to broadcast from the country, and will be shutting down its bureau office in Cairo, state television has said.
“The information minister [Anas al-Fikki] ordered … suspension of operations of Al Jazeera, cancelling of its licences and withdrawing accreditation to all its staff as of today,” a statement on the official Mena news agency said on Sunday.
In a statement, Al Jazeera said it strongly denounces and condemns the closure of its bureau in Cairo by the Egyptian government. The network received notification from the Egyptian authorities on Sunday morning.

I guess just like their human counterparts, the auto crossovers get to be whatever they’re in the mood to be today.

Well, the predicted storm this morning was a bust around Richmond, gratefully so. The sprinkles were too light to register in the rain gauge, though the TV weather folks gave Sugar Land 0.03″. Folks north and east and way east weren’t so lucky. Sun came out in the afternoon, and it warmed to 71. A miscalculation such as today’s is welcome. Likely the Arctic blast coming Tuesday will be accurate.
Watched Blazing Saddles on Netflix this evening and howled. Ah, for the days before political correctness smothered common sense and produced so many herds of sheeple. Methinks it has finally gone too far, and that dog won’t hunt much longer.

Good morning all. Clear and 58 at 6, no fog until just before 8. Then it appeared in a few minutes and keeps on rolling in on kitty cat feet and thickening, like a live thing. The house behind us is disappearing into an indistinct shape among the trees. Trees behind it are gone in the mists, and down the road the next house and its trees are gone to view.
The white mares slowly merge with the mists, but bay Cameo remains mostly visible. In front, the two angus cows across the road in the neighbor’s pasture remind one of the black dots on a domino, as the house and barn dissolve in the advancing white. Trees are murky shapes. We are temporarily in Mirkwood. No wraiths, however. A fascinating sight in real time.

Well, I thought I might check in this morning and see if bob had given any thought to the legalization of marijuana issue, but I guess it’s just a little too early in the day to be seeking out his opinion on the matter.
