Bonecrusher #9;The usability seems nice but I’m really looking for something more along the lines of free. Oh, well, I have patience.
I can not stress to you how important it is to get as close to the original source documents as possible. It is worth the investment (and this is the true and correct way to use the term investment) as it will yield tremendous benefits with increased usage. For example, the first verse in the Bible is translated in English as:
Gen 1:1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth
NASU
In the Hebrew (English translitteration) it reads:
Gen 1:1
Bree’shiyt baaraa Elohim eet hashaamayim w’eet haa’aretz
The English translitteration does not do it justice and I do not have the super delux version that will allow me to cut and paste the actual Hebrew fonts for you but I will try to explain anyway. The real mystery here is the word that is translitterated as eet. This is the aleph and tav and in the overwhelming majority of commentary it is undefined or is merely written off as a “vague preposition”; Strong’s concordance has it as #853. When you look through an interlinear version of the Torah (AKA the first 5 books) you will see this word, aleph tav, in all the really big places, like when the miracles take place in Egypt and when the Red Sea was parted. A better definition of the Aleph Tav word is HIS ESSENCE. The better rendering of the 1st verse in Scripture would be “In the beginning Elohim put HIS ESSENCE (ALEPH TAV) in the heavens and in the earth.
This Aleph Tav is of utmost importance; when THE MESIAH spoke, HE said I AM THE ALEPH AND THE TAV. By the time THE MESSIAH came along the meaning of Aleph Tav was lost, however it is written that not one bit of the Torah can be changed so they kept copying the Aleph Tav without understanding the meaning. To put it into more of today’s understanding and vernacular HE said: ‘Hey, you guys, you know that Aleph and Tav you keep copying in the Torah scrolls and you have no idea of what it means….. That’s ME, Moses was writing about ME when he wrote that.’
Now replace “the Word” (which is an English translation of a Greek translation of a rendering of Aleph and Tav whose meaning was not clear) with the Aleph and Tav understanding above and it works beautifully:
John 1:1-5
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. 5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Here’s why I hate Affirmative Action. There’s a woman at the company whom I identified as an airhead when I first met her about 12 years ago. In the meantime she has been promoted to a very high and influential level in the software hierarchy.
I was looking up someone in the directory today when I noticed his direct report was that woman. So I took a look at her listing in the directory as long as I was there. Does this excerpt remind you of any comic strip by any chance? (And note the misspelling…)
Personal Statement:
I like looking for opportunities and synergies and developing them to produce value. I believe that continual learning is essential, and I try to expose myself to a wide variety of information and veiw points.

Re: affirmative action
I may have told this story already.
Years ago, when I was still so fresh out of college that I still had some of my textbooks, I worked at a large airline in the employment office. For a while, I assisted the pilot recruiter, screening resumes, contacting potential pilots, and arranging for transportation and setting the interview schedule. I was given very strict rules about the minimums required, and the most firm one was 2500 hours in a fixed wing, not rotary wing (helicopter), aircraft. Another requirement was “x” number of hours in the first or second seat (pilot or copilot), not as navigator.
One resume I received did not meet either of these minimums, so put it into the “reject” stack. A few weeks later, the man called and the situation was explained to him. Not long after that, the recruiter told me that the man – who we now knew was not white, since he had made a personal appearance – had walked into his airport interview office and asked to be hired. When the recruiter told him no, the man said “hire me, I’ll help your numbers”. The recruiter explained again that needed to get more experience and then he could apply again, and the man left.
And filed a discrimination lawsuit.

a boss like this?
Well, I once briefly had a boss who literally did not know when he didn’t know something. Ask any question and his lips would always form an answer, but the lips weren’t hooked up to a functioning brain. I was with that small company for 4 years but I told his boss that I couldn’t work for the turkey and they reorganized me.
And I had a boss at another smallish company who told me during my interview that by using Gantt charts, he was able to tell the CEO when an application would be finished to within 4 hours. I blurted out “I’ll bet you fifty bucks you can’t” but they hired me anyway. I quit after less than a year.

Close. I worked for one of the “Big Eight” firms years ago, as part of a special resource group. I was assigned to a project moving CASE code from one computer platform to another. Early on, we ran into a problem with the new computers – it wasn’t working with the new code. I tried to explain that it was a hardware problem, not a software issue, but was ignored. After the first few attempts to explain this, the attitude of “you aren’t a mainline consultant and so don’t know anything” made it plain that I was wasting my time, so I quit and just decided to watch. For several weeks they fussed with this kernel and that kernel and moving this piece of code from here to there, and I just sat and waited, finding other tasks to do while they wasted our time. Finally, they decided to get the computers with the proper configuration and we proceeded with the project. Eventually, the consultants were moved to other projects and I was left alone to complete the project and close it down.
At my next evaluation period, the consultant in charge of the project was chosen to give me my evaluation. Everything was going fine until he reached the part where he tried to lay blame on the weeks-long delay on me. I don’t normally get huffy during an eval, but I rose up at that point and told him in no uncertain terms that I was not going to be blamed for that fiasco, that I had tried to tell him and his friends what the problem was, that they ignored me, and he was going to cross that item off my evaluation. Period. He didn’t like it, but he did it.

I’ve been with the same employer for 28 years. Overall, I can’t complain about any of the managers I’ve had. There were a couple along the way that absolutely didn’t know what they were doing, but did know enough to not mess with me. I was good at what I did, and their managers knew it.
One of my better managers stands out from the crowd. Prior to becoming a single parent, my job included flying off to exotic places (like Tulsa or Boise) at the drop of a hat, usually two or three times a month with very little notice. I always kept a bag packed, and many times got a call at noon and was in a different state a few hours later. I loved the work, thrived on the stress, and appreciated the gratification that comes when the green lights on the gear started flashing again. Obviously, that kind of lifestyle would be incompatible with single parenthood.
I called my (then) manager and let him know that I needed to move on. He said, “Do you remember Jerry? You helped him with a project a few years ago, and he told me that if you ever got tired of being a Top Gun to give him a call.” Coincidentally, Jerry needed a body to fill an upcoming retirement, and I was it. Work from home, very little travel involved, and when it was needed there was ample notice.
But that’s not what made Jerry an outstanding people manager. A couple of years later, when hurricane Rita came through, he also had a hire ticket to fill a retirement. He suspended the normal search, and actively looked for an employee in the LA/Mississippi that had lost their home and might be interested in moving to AZ for a 3 month “try it” assignment in his department.
Jerry loved to fly. In addition to owning a classic bi-plane, he built his own aircraft from a kit. Two years ago Jerry died doing what he loved–Flying his plane over the Arizona desert.
If I ever become a people manager, I want to be like Jerry.

In my field we called that promoting them up, instead of firing the dumbaxes, just to get them out of the way so us workers could get on with the business.

I have a hard time putting any trust in Baradei or however you spell his name. He could not find his a$$ w/ both hands and written directions when he was with the UN. he coiuld not find any untoward activities in Iran, which IMHO, puts him squarely in the realm of Inspector Clouseau.
The unrest is all over the mid-east; Tunisia, Yemen, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and that is just what we know of. A chunk of the rioters are Islamo-Fascist-Terd-Nozzles (IFTN) and another chunk are freedom (in a more western sense) fighters. We all know how ruthless and violent the IFTN’s can be, the big question is: will the freedom fighters be able to overcome them and achieve a democracy and freedom??
Is this the chaos that is supposed to bring on the madi that the shiite-head IFTN’s have been praying for?

The Muslim Brotherhood are a huge part of the problem. In Egypt several decades ago a big chunk of them were executed but, like the cockroaches they are, they re-constituted themselves. All the members of the MB must be treated like cockroaches they are.

The Brotherhood has been laying off of this until today, but have started becoming active today. Thus far its been a secular protest. That’s why Baradei is important. he’s the most moderate person available right now—definetly preferable to the Brotherhood.

The Muslim Brotherhood is not a big a part of the problems Egyupt has had (until now). They weren’t as popular or as powerful as some of the alarmist might want to believe. They are roughly analgous to the Bolsehviks in Russia. Not large in numbers or popularity, but very well organized and composed of true believers willing to do anything for the cuase. The danger here is that they, like the Bolsheviks, co-opt a nascent Freedom movement. The next year will be critical should Mubarak leave office.
He’s supposed to be addressing the nation very soon.

Speaking of Inspector Clouseau, what does our State Department have to say? TOWBWF?
This can very quickly get very far out of control and outside the boundaries of Egypt.

Asked if he would characterize Mubarak as a dictator Biden responded: “Mubarak has been an ally of ours in a number of things. And he’s been very responsible on, relative to geopolitical interest in the region, the Middle East peace efforts; the actions Egypt has taken relative to normalizing relationship with – with Israel. … I would not refer to him as a dictator.”
Of course, these are the same folk who will tell you that Hugo Chavez is not a freedom loverr, and Fidel Castro was elected President of Cuba for 50 years.

FOX reporting the attempt to take over the TV station was unsucessful.
It might mean that if it was an assault by an organized group they were thwarted and their chances for sucess is greatly diminished. It could also mean that it was a spontaneous event done by protestors and not an organized assault.
Both would be good news.

There is not much the US government can do in Egypt, Jordan, or Yemen. The core of the
protests is financial. Angry folks who have empty stomachs and little hope for the future are not receptive to the slick promises of politicians. Of course the various fundamentalist factions with use the discontent to their advantage. After all…Why waste a perfectly good crisis?
Folks with jobs, full bellies, and hope seldom complain about the leaders in charge…no matter how despotic or democratic.
Mubarek has ruled Egypt with an iron hand for thirty years and he has been grooming is son to take over the reins. There may be a little Mubarek fatigue setting in with the massive unemployment.
An U.S. Military solution would not have much support here. If we are lucky this will die out in a few weeks. If we are not so lucky it will spread to Saudi Arabia and the Emirates where 75% of the proven oil reserves are located.
Maybe I am wrong….I hope so.

This just droped into the ole mail box;
If you are 36, or older, you might think this is hilarious!
When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning…. Uphill… Barefoot… BOTH ways…yadda, yadda, yadda
And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on my kids about how hard I had it and how easy they’ve got it!
But now that I’m over the ripe old age of forty+, I can’t help but look around and notice the youth of today. You’ve got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia! And I hate to say it, but you kids today, you don’t know how good you’ve got it!
1) I mean, when I was a kid we didn’t have the Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!!
2) There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter – with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox, and it would take like a week to get there! Stamps were 10 cents!
3) Child Protective Services didn’t care if our parents beat us. As a matter of fact, the parents of all my friends also had permission to kick our ass! Nowhere was safe!
4) There were no MP3’s or Napsters or iTunes! If you wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the record store and shoplift it yourself!
5) Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio, and the DJ would usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up! There were no CD players! We had tape decks in our car. We’d play our favorite tape and “eject” it when finished, and then the tape would come undone rendering it useless. Cause, hey, that’s how we rolled, Baby! Dig?
6) We didn’t have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called, they got a busy signal, that’s it!
7) There weren’t any freakin’ cell phones either. If you left the house, you just didn’t make a damn call or receive one. You actually had to be out of touch with your “friends”. OH MY GOSH !!! Think of the horror… not being in touch with someone 24/7!!! And then there’s TEXTING. Yeah, right. Please! You kids have no idea how annoying you are.
8) And we didn’t have fancy Caller ID either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your parents, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, the collection agent… you just didn’t know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!
9) We didn’t have any fancy PlayStation or Xbox video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like ‘Space Invaders’ and ‘Asteroids’. Your screen guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination!!! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen.. Forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!
10) You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel!!! NO REMOTES!!! Oh, no, what’s the world coming to?!?!
11) There was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I’m saying? We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-bastards!
12) And we didn’t have microwaves. If we wanted to heat something up, we had to use the stove! Imagine that!
13) And our parents told us to stay outside and play… all day long. Oh, no, no electronics to soothe and comfort. And if you came back inside… you were doing chores!
And car seats – oh, please! Mom threw you in the back seat and you hung on. If you were lucky, you got the “safety arm” across the chest at the last moment if she had to stop suddenly, and if your head hit the dashboard, well that was your fault for calling “shot gun” in the first place!
See! That’s exactly what I’m talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You’re spoiled rotten! You guys wouldn’t have lasted five minutes back in 1970 or any time before!

I have my doubts about Saudi and the emirates. Jordan and Albania are another story—and possibly Syria.
If its truly middle class democratic movement, its not bad news, really—–unless Islamists use the confusion to co-opt the revolutions. From reports I’m reading, this does not look like an Islamist inspired revolt.

ElBaredai a moderate? I beg to differ as does Caroline Glick here
As IAEA head, Elbaradei shielded Iran’s nuclear weapons program from the Security Council.
He repeatedly ignored evidence indicating that Iran’s nuclear program was a military program rather than a civilian energy program. When the evidence became too glaring to ignore, Elbaradei continued to lobby against significant UN Security Council sanctions or other actions against Iran and obscenely equated Israel’s purported nuclear program to Iran’s.
His actions won him the support of the Iranian regime which he continues to defend. Just last week he dismissed the threat of a nuclear armed Iran, telling the Austrian News Agency, “There’s a lot of hype in this debate,” and asserting that the discredited 2007 US National Intelligence Estimate that claimed Iran abandoned its nuclear weapons program in 2003 remains accurate.
Elbaradei’s support for the Iranian ayatollahs is matched by his support for the Muslim Brotherhood.

I admit its a bit like comparing Oral Roberts to Pat Robertson, but you have to look at the alternatives.

Sarge 60,
I hope that you are right about Saudi Arabia and the Emirates. Conditions there are not as bleak as in Egypt, but I didn’t think the government in Jordan is as unpopular as it seems to be.
This has been brewing for a while.

There’s info out there that suggests that those who are in the streets are wired-in middle class youth —-the Facebook Generation of the Middle East. Saudi and the Emirates have a more affluent and stable middle class. Jordan, not so much.
My biggest fear is that we’re seeing deja vu all over again. We’ve got another liberal democrat running our foreign policy while there’s a popular democratic revolution going on in a muslim nation. He’s already shown the muslim world that we are no longer the strong horse.
We’ve got a Jimmy Carter economy, I hope we don’t get a Jimmy Carter result here.

Mubarak just made a speech—from Cairo. Sounds like he thinks he’s going to stick around. He’s asked his government to resign and he will appoint a new one appointed today.
Now that this is out, Barry is in a tight spot.
Egypt protests: America’s secret backing for rebel leaders behind uprising
The American government secretly backed leading figures behind the Egyptian uprising who have been planning “regime change” for the past three years, The Daily Telegraph has learned.
The American Embassy in Cairo helped a young dissident attend a US-sponsored summit for activists in New York, while working to keep his identity secret from Egyptian state police.
On his return to Cairo in December 2008, the activist told US diplomats that an alliance of opposition groups had drawn up a plan to overthrow President Hosni Mubarak and install a democratic government in 2011.
He has already been arrested by Egyptian security in connection with the demonstrations and his identity is being protected by The Daily Telegraph.
If Mubarak sticks around, he knows where the knife came from. If this turns into a take over by the Muslim Brotherhood, or anybody else unfreindly to the US or Isreal, then it was Barry who helped make it happen.

I just got an update on my brother-in-law. Please keep him and my sister in your prayers. It doesn’t look good at all. The tumors are growing and spreading and surgery only gives them a little hope – but they’ve been turned down by surgeons once already.
The only blessing in all of this is that he is turning to God. He’s had some hard knocks and bad relationships and one incident in particular for which he shouldn’t but does feel guilty. From what I hear, he’s beginning to shed some of that baggage. I try not to worry about what will happen to my sister long-term, since there are few jobs for which she is qualified any more. She simply cannot sit at a desk and look at a screen – it hurts her neck. She can’t lift much at a time or over time – it hurts her neck and her arms go numb. She would love to work, but her body won’t let her.
Sometimes life sucks.

I believe in studying the scriptures humbly, diligently, guided by the Spirit and under the inspired knowledge of living prophets. Except for natural human imperfection, you can’t go wrong with that formula. So a embership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints gives you all that for a bout $650 less than the price of scriptural software 😉 .
I really like deeper meanings in scripture and I agree that studying text under the original tongue which they were scripted helps one to unlock the mysteries of the Kingdom. In fact, oneofthe purposes Joseph Smith Jr. included Hebrew studies in the Schools of the Prophets was to do just that.

#77 With all due respect sir and friend, if a prophet teaches something contrary to Scripture (Genesis thru Malachi) it is commanded that he be stoned. There is no conflict (if one has understanding) between old and new Testaments. There are “prophets” who teach error and as such their counsel merits no consideration. Please note that I have not called out anyone or denomination specifically in this post and have no desire to do so. I am urging extreme caution when following ANY DENOMINATION OR PREACHER OR PROPHET! Be sure, do your own homework and study to be sure that:
1) You get chapter and verse of that which is being cited.
2) You read the passage yourself and determine:
a) it is in context with the rest of the passage in which it is contained
b) it is in context and not in conflict with the balance of Scripture.
For example: If a preacher tells you that a certain passage in the New Testament cancels out the Old Testament, that passage cited has to be taken out of context because the Word of Elohim is perfect and does not conflict with itself. IF it did conflict with itself it would not be perfect and therefore not the word of Elohim and the Scriptures would be unreliable. This is the equivalent of calling Y_VH a liar and I will not do that.
I approach all preachers/denominations/prophets etc with a big healthy dose of skepticism and check each and every word thoroughly to make sure it is right. Not a bad practice for us all.

Some of these are ‘wolves in sheep’s clothing’. The really sad part is that most of them do not even realize that they are wolves in sheep’s clothing.
Matt 7:15-23
15 “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 “You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? 17 “So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 “A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. 19 “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 “So then, you will know them by their fruits.
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’
NASU
IN the first bolded section above they are wolves, in the 2nd they state that they cast out demons in HIS name etc, they THOUGHT they were doing the right thing but in reality they were practicing lawlessness.
further to my #80:
I am urging extreme caution when following ANY DENOMINATION OR PREACHER OR PROPHET!
Some of these are ‘wolves in sheep’s clothing’. The really sad part is that most of them do not even realize that they are wolves in sheep’s clothing.

I hit a wrong button, let me continue.
HOW DOES ONE KNOW IF HE IS DOING THE RIGHT THING OR PRACTICING LAWLESSNESS?
WHAT IS LAWLESSNESS?
Matt 7:13-14
The Narrow and Wide Gates
13 “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 “For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Tedtam, you, your sis and your bro-in-law are in my thoughts.
TT, I’ll go along with Bob on this one. I don’t pray, but you have my sympathies for you and your family members.

I am signing off until tomorrow morning when I will go and visit my mother who will be celebrating the completion of her 77th year on the planet. She looks great and could pass for 60:>)

#77 With all due respect sir and friend, if a prophet teaches something contrary to Scripture (Genesis thru Malachi) it is commanded that he be stoned.
Must be why bob42 preaches contrary to the Bible. He likes being stoned.
If a preacher tells you that a certain passage in the New Testament cancels out the Old Testament
Agreed:
Behold, I am he that gave the law, and I am he who covenanted with my people Israel; therefore, the law in me is fulfilled, for I have come to fulfil the law; therefore it hath an end.
Behold, I do not destroy the prophets, for as many as have not been fulfilled in me, verily I say unto you, shall all be fulfilled.
IF it did conflict with itself it would not be perfect and therefore not the word of Elohim and the Scriptures would be unreliable. This is the equivalent of calling Y_VH a liar and I will not do that.
Good for you for not calling God a liar.
And I, Enos, knew that God could not lie; wherefore, my guilt was swept away.
I agree with your line of thinking.
Some of these (prophets) are ‘wolves in sheep’s clothing’.
They most certainly are.

HA HA! You are a 2nd row runner now, Timbo.
It’s been a bad 2 day stretch, 1st the blogboss steals my hunnerd, then you took the front row.
I just want a name when I lose.

Sorry, Deacon Blue is already taken. You’ll have to come up with your own.

Where is Adee lately? I didn’t see her country weather poetry this morning. Hope she is all right.

#87 Dude42, that needs a linkie. I wish I could still “work the saxophone.” It was fun.
I’d also like to date a gal named “AJA.” But now I’m dreaming (again.)

We ended up discussing the lyrics of that song briefly during a men’s group meeting at church one time. Don’t remember how it came up, but it’s kind of a dark song when you have a look at it. Love the tune though, and I do love some Steely Dan.

Good thing you didn’t discuss where the band’s name came from.

#94 Hamous, I agree.
Good thing you didn’t discuss where the band’s name came from.
Such a discussion would be more appropriate for a women’s group meeting.

Good night all. Have been busy today with numerous things and no time for the review of early morning events. See y’all tomorrow.
