Thursday Frank Bullitt Open Comments

This is widely regarded as the granddaddy of all car chase scenes in motion pictures. There have been several like it, but this one in the movie Bullitt, starring one of my favorite actors, Steve McQueen set the standard.
Do yourself a favor and watch it full-screen.

Here’s a little more on the story behind the filming of the scene.
btw – for those of you who haven’t had the opportunity to drive in San Francisco, some of those hills are very steep. Especially when you’re trying to drive them in a clapped-out 1971 VW bug. ๐Ÿ˜‰

gto #108; From your link: John and his brothers quickly went back to the shop where John demonstrated with an old lever-action Winchester 73 rifle that a block could be propelled across the shop just by the gases coming from the barrel. The next day, Browning took that same rifle and with the help of his brothers, Matt and Ed,… Read more »

Bonecrusher #9; The usability seems nice but I’m really looking for something more along the lines of free. Oh, well, I have patience. #11; I first learned of Browning about 5 years ago and asked my father-in-law about him. He sent me a biography on Browning but wanted it bakc rather quick. I didn’t get to read much of it.… Read more »

It looks like the birther movement may have some Democrat allies.
It’ll be good when this is all over. Obama can’t use the birth issue anymore in an attempt to brand his opponents as crazy nutjobs.
Or not?
Perhaps the Dems are just as tired of this as the rest of us.

SD, the safety is behind the trigger and pushed to the left. The bolt release is on the right and above the magazine feed. Given the source this should be a late 50’s or early 60’s gun. Barrel says made in Belgium. Back at a Houston gunshow in the 80’s, I found a police riot Savage version of this gun.… Read more »

Super Dave, there is nothing light about my son’s Auto-5. it kicks. But he does like the gun. When he first got it we went to the Texas City shooting range at the dike. That is a really fun place to shoot. After a few rounds, a guy asked my son to swap guns as he had not seen a… Read more »

Oh and Goat, where is the safety? In front of your finger, you push forward to release or behind the trigger guard and you push it sideways? My Dad grew up “Dirt Poor” and when he got back from WW II he purchased what he thought was the best shotgun made in his time, a Browning Auto 5, paid $147.50,… Read more »

Well, no one did guess it. It was not what one would expect from, well basically a middle-aged hippie. But it was a nice story with a sentimental ending.

How John Browning came to invent a self re-loading gun. Trying shoot this contraption and not smash one’s fingers must have been interesting. Has anyone used Mint? Is it any good? I have an old version of Quicken that I’m using, and it’s full of old crap. I’m trying to decide if I want to start with a new set of accounts in Quicken or use something like Mint. I worry about security.

The video of the totally clad muslim women on the runway was in front of a crowd of totally clad muslim males.
And if I recall, at least some of the 9-11 bombers spent their last night in a strip club?
