    War Eagles!
Well I’m an Alabama Fan but unless Auburn is playing Bama I pull for them.
After the wheels fell off Alabama I was glad to see Auburn do so well, Except for one game. 😉

    G’Morning all
All of my Florida in-laws moved to Alabama bout 25 years ago when my father in law retired from ranching in Yeehaw Junction, Fla. (bout 40 miles north of Okeechobie) They are all die hard Auburn fans. My facebook page is overloaded with yahoo’s, whoopeetodo’s and rolling around on the ground in sheer orgasmic pleasure. BTW, the line was Auburn by 2 1/2 points, so the ones that put some money where their mouth is are collecting their winnings today.

Wow, good schmoozing, Darren! This must be because of how much I liked your family art project!

Regarding SEC, I don’t know what that stands for or what sport it is, and I’m not gonna google it. Actually I’d guess basketball because CBS blew off ’60 Mins” last Sunday for f’ball followed by b’ball… Wall-to-wall sports.

He could have not taken a better mug shot picture if this guy’s attorney is going to go for an insanity plea. The guy just looks Bat Guamo looney.

Regarding your question last night. I think that Huntsman would make a stronger candidate for President in 2012 than any of the other projected folks at this time.

Still, it might just be a bit early.

MHarper42 – Southeastern Conference schools have been to the BCS National Championship game seven times since its inception and seven times they’ve won

Florida (2), LSU (2), Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn

By comparison, the Big 12 has also been to the game seven times and two times they’ve won.

Good morning all. Blowing steadily and 35 at 6, windchill in the 20s. A mist blew around most of the night. Sheets placed on plants last night have blown mostly off, luckily no harm done. Tonight, however, is another story. Pinch clothespins to the rescue. The mares were eager to go out, but after a turn around the pastures they’ve settled in the shelter of the barn wall. We lucked out again with the last front leaving the snows to the north and east.

Several industrious squirrels are scrambling around the yards, picking up nuts on the fly and zooming up trees. The bird flocks haven’t arrived yet so perhaps the flying is difficult in the wind. Sturdy pansies nod in the wind, their faces swinging to and fro, upright and smiling as always. They are the brightest things in the yard, especially cheery on a gloomy day.

Regarding the Speaker of the Texas House, let us hope he has made concessions to the strong conservative contingent. And if so, let them hold him to it. The Dems’ chatter in frustration is likely the best indicator of conservative influence.

Excellent news that Rep. Giffords has responded to external stimuli, and brain swellling has not increased. No change in this case is good news. As for the mass murdering attacker, his mug shot is a face of evil. Creepy and disturbing.

Sooner or later the Left will continue down their road where the perpetrator is not responsible for his actions. They’ve already laid the groundwork by blaming it on “the right”. Eventually it will be their excuse du jour – he was bullied in school. They’ll then righteously put forth a mountain of anti-bullying legislation and tell the world anyone that votes against it hates children.

I’ve never been much of a conspiracy theorist, but I also don’t believe that much in coincidences. Has anyone considered how the left seemed to be able to gear its “blame the right, blame Sarah Palin” game going before the poor Congresslady even made it to the emergency room? Why is the Sheriff already providing the perp’s defense a plausible excuse for his behavior by placing the blame on Rush and others on the right? Lastly, I am blown away by the striking resemblance between the perp and the Sheriff, judging by the photos on Drudge. Check it out at: http://www.drudgereport.com/

They’ve all been saying that Obama needed his own Oklahoma City bombing incident to prove his Presidential bonafides, so that’s what he’s trying to do with this. Anyone remember what Lee Harvey Oswald said – “I’m just a patsy.” I joking said when this happened that it would be some loner loser living in his parents’ basement, and lo and behold, look what happened. Who would ever miss this guy? They stories are just not adding up just yet.

I heard on Sam Malone’s program this morning that Arizona has a Guilty But Insane category in its criminal code. Persons convicted who later become sane are sent off to a regular prison to serve/finish their sentences. Presume they have a special prison for the criminally insane.

Texas needs to seriously consider adding Guilty But Insane to the criminal code.

The left was able to get its smear machine up to 11 so quickly because that’s all they’ve got. The public has all but rejected their ideas about governance, so they can only win by maliciously tearing down those with whom they disagree. There are some on the right that do as well, but they are much more marginalized.

Now that it’s become pretty obvious that Loughner is a paranoid schizophrenic nut and not a secret Republican operative, they are starting to go with the “we need more mental health care” line. While that is true (at least to a point), the problem is actually getting people to avail themselves of mental healthcare.

If I look down at my leg and notice it’s covered with green spots, I will likely go see a doctor, who will then treat me for green spotted leg syndrome. I would do that because I am able to think clearly.

If I’m a full-blown nutter like Loughner, I wouldn’t be thinking clearly, so I would not be likely to even know I have a problem, let alone need to seek help for it. In fact, since I’m paranoid, I would likely avoid mental health facilities at all costs, since they are obviously going to try to control my mind. It’s also difficult for others to get me the care I need, since I’m not only going to resist their actions, but they can’t force me to unless I have done something serious enough for the law to step in and drag me in.

A further complication is that even if I seek the care and am treated, if I decide to stop taking my meds, stop getting treatment, or my condition deteriorates, I’m back to the beginning again, where I’ll have to be dragged back to treatment. Even if I know the symptoms of my illness, I may not notice them until it’s too late. When butter slides off noodles (in real life, not metaphorically – yet), nothing much happens at first, then a slow, almost imperceptible movement begins and begins to pick up speed. The same thing happens when the (metaphorical) butter slides off someone’s noodles.

Getting crazy people to voluntarily show up for mental health care is a losing proposition. We can no longer easily commit people, for better or worse, so we need to find a way to get people to avail themselves of care some other way.

    Addendum to #21

Pima County Sheriff Buford T. Justice knew about Loughner and how nutso he is/was. They said they were monitoring him as several people had filed charges (or whatever) that he had threatened their lives and he had been kicked out of school for similar acts. How closely he was being monitored and if, in fact, that was the case remains to be seen.

Nevertheless, I’m not sure what the law allows to be done until he actually does something, which unfortunately he now has.

Wagonburner, for a good explanation that concurs with yours: http://drsanity.blogspot.com/

One of the more interesting emails I received yesterday after the unfolding of the attempted assassination of Gabrielle Giffords and the murder of others, including a Federal judge in Arizona, was the following:
“This is what comes of spewing hate, you fascist pig!”

I find it interesting primarily because it encapsulates in an enlightening way the leftist mindset which has been described in the last several posts on Dr. Sanity
    snip …
Paranoid schizophrenics almost always have bizarre political and/or religious agendas. Their delusions almost always have relevance to the current political situation and context within which they live. I can give you hundreds of examples from my personal experience treating them: the CIA or other “secret” agencies are tapping into their minds; the “government” (and I have seen U.S., British, and multiple other governments implicated depending on the national origins of the individual in question) is out to destroy them because they know something they should not; they alone understand the urgency of the threat. When the Patty Hearst kidnapping occurred decades ago, almost all the schizophrenics I saw had delusions related to Patty Hearst and the Symbionese Liberation Army. More recently, a paranoid schizophrenic that I evaluated thought that President Bush practiced dark magic to force people into ‘volunteering’ for the military and that this was why no military draft was needed to get recruits to go to Iraq.

Not that far off the mark:

This evening, MSNBC host Chris Matthews hosted Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA) and Mark Penn — former Hillary Clinton campaign adviser and current Burson-Marsteller CEO — to discuss the results of this week’s elections. The three talked about what they believed the Democrats need to do differently in order to win elections in the future.
Penn suggested that President Bill Clinton was provided an opportunity with the Oklahoma City bombing to “reconnect” with voters. In a clumsy, ham-handed way, Penn then suggested that perhaps Obama needs his own similar event — like the domestic terror attack in OK City — to reconnect with Americans:

PENN: President Clinton reconnected with Oklahoma. And the President right now he seems removed. And it wasn’t until that speech that he really clicked with the American people. Obama needs a similar kind of, yeah.

They all wrote the posts in advance, just waiting on something to happen so the could fill in the blanks.

  57. Tedtam Avatar

I was talking with a friend last night, who claims she’s “middle of the road” and thinks that the rhetoric on both sides has gone too far and that they should tone it down. I explained that as far as I knew, no one on the right advocated stoning a Congressman and his family, and she seemed shocked. I further explained that most of the anger on the right stems from the misrepresenting the right gets from the left. We had a lively discussion, but I don’t think she’s changed her opinion.

I’m thinking about sending her the links to Breitbart’s “Pigford” stories, and ask her if she’s heard any of it on the alphabet networks. She might be surprised at what she’s missed.

Still don’t think she’ll change. Human nature rarely makes that big a shift. That’s why we have ideological differences.

I never knew that Dahmer repented and converted:

Not that every atheist is evil – I don’t believe that, but I found these passages interesting:

Stone Philips asked the obvious questions probing Dahmer’s father and mother as to why Jeffrey committed these horrific acts. He asked if there were any signs… that would give us a clue as to how this monster was created. Was Jeffrey molested as a child? Did the screaming in the doomed marriage cause this behavior? The parents came up empty. They didn’t see any signs; they didn’t know of any catastrophic events. Jeffrey wasn’t abnormal or deviant by anything they saw. …

Then Stone asked Jeffrey the same question. Why? What caused you to do these things? Candidly, Jeffrey simply answers that he was Godless.

Shocking isn’t it? Jeffrey explains that up until he was caught and put into prison he had been told that he was primordial ooze, a product of evolution. After being convicted, his father sent him some information explaining that God created the world and the people in it. At some point, Jeffrey realized that he had to answer to a higher being. He logically understood that primordial ooze doesn’t have to answer to anyone or anything; a created human being MUST answer to his Creator.

    /snip

If that were the end of the story, we could walk away with some important lessons. But, unfortunately, it’s not. You see, Stone Philips apparently didn’t believe Dahmer’s answer. He just couldn’t manage to take Dahmer’s answer at face value. Stone continued to probe into his parents, his classes, his life in general – ANYTHING but God – to explain why Dahmer did the heinous things he did.

But Dahmer stood his ground and said his parents were not to blame. … He, Jeffrey Dahmer, took full responsibility for making the decision to mutilate his fellow man. And one day he will answer for his crimes to the One that created him and whose expectations for his life he cruelly violated.

I wonder if “Godless” will become a legal defense?

A little perspective is in order, I think. There have been five cases of death (or attempts) of congress people in our entire history as a nation. The last member of congress to be assassinated was Leo Ryan during the Jonestown massacre in 1978. The previous death was a duel in 1838 (dueling was legal up to that point). The next case of violence was between members of Congress in 1856. The next was Puerto Rican nationalists attempted assassination in 1954. Five congressmen were wounded but survived. How many ordinary citizens are murdered by unhinged nutcases every day?

It should not be a defense, because Scripture tells us that we must follow all moral laws, both from God and man. God, being the nice guy He is, forgives us of our transgressions and the resulting punishment so long as we are truly repentant. We still must face the punishment due us for breaking the laws of man (as long as they are just).

From the article; “I felt like urinating. I stood up, and it was then it attacked me. The candirú attacked me. […] When I saw it, I was terrified. I grabbed it quickly so it couldn’t go deeper inside. I could only see the end of its tail flapping. I tried to grab it, but it slipped away from me and went in. Arizona has a Guilty But Insane category in its criminal code. Persons convicted who later become sane are sent off to a regular prison to serve/finish their sentences………
Texas needs to seriously consider adding Guilty But Insane to the criminal code..

I have on good authority that they never get sane enough to be sent to a regular prison.

I do not like this category of criminal. We live in a society that has totally ignored the existence of evil. It is easier to say well the poor baby is crazy so lock it up and forget about it till he does a 60 Minutes interview. This bastige is not insane he is the personification of pure evil and needs to be disposed of like the garbage he is.

Forget all this crap about letting doctors psychoanalyze him (at everyone’s expense) to see if they can figure out what “motivates” him. Again, motivation makes no difference. This is the key:

We live in a society that has totally ignored the existence of evil.

BTW, nothing needs to be added to the criminal code. We have plenty of law there already if we’d just be willing to enforce it. I’d go so far as to say that our legal codes are bloated as they stand now. Why in the world should we add new laws on top of laws that already exist and aren’t adequately / impartially enforced?

It’s a result of the influence of the Left over the past several decades. They do not believe in absolutes; everything is some shade of gray. Sometimes people are just flat-out evil and need to be dealt with as such.

n.b. – I still believe that every human being is a precious life given by God. Every human soul is equal. What the owner of that soul chooses to do with it makes the difference. Loughner still has a tiny kernel of the Holy Spirit inside him, if can/will only choose to listen.

There were 31,000 laws created in the 50 states last year alone. That is 6000+ laws per state. This shows to go ya that

    2. Governments just want more laws to control us.

It seems that most of what we need as a society could be distilled down to a relatively few pages of law. The Uniform Code Of Military Justice runs a little over 100 pages (if fairly nicely formatted) and under 30,000 words. As a frame of reference, the approx word count on this topic from “Tuesday Open Comments” to the end of your #49 is about 4,600 words.

While civil law must deal with things like urban planning, etc. it shouldn’t be nearly as bloated as it currently is. There are laws that were passed because someone did something that was already illegal, but the legislature decided that it should be super duper illegal, so people wouldn’t try breaking it again (e.g., “hate crime” laws). We all know how well that works.

One of the things (of many) that irritate the heck out me, and it seems to be getting worse, is the media continually calling government representitives ‘law makers.’ The implication is that their only job is to pass more laws. They just continue to try to increase their power and control of the citizens of this country.
Do they not realize that some day they will no longer be in a position of power and the restrictive laws and policies they make now will not only effect them but also their children? Their children will have less freedom, as we all will, because of their mistaken idea that their role is keep passing laws.

Don’t be surprised to find movie rentals and bait in the same store. Do NOT buy food at this store.

Remember, ‘Y’all’ is singular, ‘all y’all’ is plural, and ‘all y’all’s’ is plural possessive.

Get used to hearing ‘You ain’t from round here, are ya?’

Don’t be worried at not understanding what people are saying. They can’t understand you either. (I can’t understand half of what some of my more rural relatives say, myself)

The first Southern statement to creep into a transplanted Northerner’s vocabulary is the adjective ‘big’ol,’ truck or ‘big’ol’ boy. Most Northerners begin their Southern-influenced dialect this way. All of them are in denial about it.

The proper pronunciation you learned in school is no longer proper.

Be advised that ‘He needed killin.’ is a valid defense here.

If you hear a Southerner exclaim, ‘Hey, y’all watch this,’ you should stay out of the way. These are likely to be the last words he’ll ever say.

If there is the prediction of the slightest chance of even the smallest accumulation of snow, your presence is required at the local grocery store. It doesn’t matter whether you need anything or not. You just have to go there.

Do not be surprised to find that 10-year olds own their own shotguns, they are proficient marksmen, and their mammas taught them how to aim.

If you run your car into a ditch, don’t panic. Four men in a four-wheel drive pickup truck with a tow chain will be along shortly. Don’t try to help them, just stay out of their way. This is what they live for.
Save all manner of bacon grease. You will be instructed later on how to use it.

Squawk, Guilty But Insane covers the gap when the insane become “cured” in the opinions of shrinks and lawyers and are released from the insane lockup because they couldn’t have been responsible for what they did when they did it, but now they are sane after the fact. Guilty But Insane hangs onto these creatures and moves them from the prison for the criminally insane into a regular prison to pay for their crimes. They do not go free. If they are still nuts they stay locked up in the prison for the criminally insane. They don’t get a Get Out Of Jail Free card because they are “cured.”

A fellow inmate solved the State of Wisconsin’s problem of no death penalty when he killed the insane and evil Jeffrey Dahmer in prison.

Even though it’s an order of magnitude lower than what Squawk wrote, 620 new laws per state in a year’s time is ludicrous. If laws were as good at creating a better society as politicians seem to think they are we’d be living in a Utopia about now.

And as I said I have on good authority that they never get moved to the regular prisons.

I would contend that the criminally insane receive “less punishment” than death row prisoners in 23 hour lock up.

And lets take this one step further. If the person was criminally insane when they committed the act then they are not responsible for their actions right cause they were not themselves? I mean they could not help themselves right? So they can in theory become sane right? Thus one could expect that the sane person would not have committed the act in the first place so why would you continue to punish this person.
Isn’t he not guilty cause he is now sane?

Sorry Ms Adee I cannot accept it. I believe the gap is a contrived gap that ignores my point about evil.

I still thinks there is a lot more to this story yet to come. Both of the perp’s parents work for the county – where, in the sheriff’s office? What level of investigations were carried out by the sheriff on the previous death threats generated by this nutcase.

What better patsy could you find if you happen to be in the market for one and needed to create a scene to prop up your ratings and attack your political enemies?

The best observation of Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, the moron pathetically grasping his 15 minutes of fame in Tuscon, was made by Texan Bryan Preston at PajamasMedia:

The law man Allahpundit is dubbing “Supercop” is ratcheting up the political rhetoric that he says he wants everyone else to tamp down, now on Diane Sawyer’s TV newscast blaming Rush Limbaugh for the Tucson shooting.

No, really. Meet Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, liberal pundit at large.

Does he have any evidence that Jared Lee Loughner ever listened to Limbaugh, even once? No. In fact, all evidence from Loughner’s age to his actions to descriptions of him by people who know him point to serious mental illness, probably schizophrenia. But hey, Dupnik is only the sheriff, it’s not like he has to rely on actual evidence to make his judgments or anything.

Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik is now officially the worst cop since Maryland’s Chief Charles Moose, last seen still waiting for the DC sniper to pull up in his white van.

    GJT #206 yesterday;

While there’s much to admire about Utah truth be told it would be about the last state I’d want to live (assuming it was entirely up to me to decide where to live). Regarding my Utah shades, I kinda have the same shades for Texas. I’m convinced that Texas and Utah, based upon what I know of the nature of its citizens, will be amng the last states to hold out on our freedoms if our freedoms continue to erode. On the political side of things while Orin Hatch is nothing to brag about I think Mike Lee is. If all of this year’s freshmen senators were to jump into the 2012 presidential primaries with whomever else is currently excpected to run, Senator Lee would easily have my vote. Realitstically, however, a national leadership role for Lee in the GOP is slim to none and I’m OK with that. There’s a lot of good people out there and I wouldn’t mind at all if someone like Marco Rubio won that mantle.

    Simple #8;

I don’t know. I’m not entirely comfortable with some things Huntsman seems to have positioned himself on. Personally I’m looking for someone more socially conservative. States Rights can play a big role with me.

    El Gordo #205 yesterday;

I think it matters on what Huntsman’s particular positions on immigration reform as well as climate change.
    _______________________________________________________________________
What appeals to me most about Governor Huntsman Jr. in a possible presidential run is actually his father, Jon Huntsman Sr. Father Huntsman to me is the epitome of American exceptionalism. He is a very honorable man who built up his own fortune and has used that fortune to help others quite a bit. Im assuming many of the qualities of Huntsman Sr. has filtered into Huntsman Jr. But to be sure I’ll need to learn more about him.

I threw out the hot button issues to get a fell from a conservative reaction (so thanks for your input Simple 😉 ) and I thank you for your input. I do not like his take on energy. It seems to be focused on reducing energy and not producing more. It’s the latter this country definitely needs and the former can only lead to more government regulations. Though, like before, to be sure I’d need to learn more about this issue.

As for immigration reform, I say YES, we do need reform and bad. One thing I’ll never abandon however is my opposition to blanket amnesty. I’m quite willing to grant amnesty but the borders must be secured first! And then amnesty can be granted under stringent requirements. I think many on the conservative side of this issue need to face the fact that so much of our immigration problem is our own doing so I do not think it neither unwise nor unconservative to favor some form of amnesty.

Thanks again for your feedback. And for any feedback from my own comments.

In 2008, he won reelection with 78 percent of the vote and, in the wake of Obama’s victory that fall, began arguing that the GOP had to improve its standing with young voters by softening its stances on same-sex issues, climate change, and immigration or risk electoral irrelevance.

    Like that Reagan guy?

I’ve laid out to you a huge reason I like Huntsman Jr. and that’s based heavily on what i know about Huntsman Sr. Look him up and tell me what you think.

Antoher reason I’m interested in Huntsman Jr. would be how rock-solid Huntsman is on taxes. The US should seek for its businesses that have gone overseas, like to China, to return here. That won’t happen with our current tax structure.

Alongside tax cuts we can see (and I don’t see why this would not be accurate):

In addition to his public service, Huntsman served as an executive for the Huntsman Corporation, the Huntsman Cancer Foundation and CEO of Huntsman Family Holdings Company. Other organizations he has served include the Utah Opera, Envision Utah, the Coalition for Utah’s Future, and KSL-TV’s Family Now campaign.

The above is only preliminary knowledge of Huntsman as well as the following:

Huntsman is a seventh-generation Utahn; his wife Mary Kaye Cooper is a first-generation Utahn. Together they have seven children: Mary Anne (b. 1985), Abigail (b. 1986), Elizabeth (b. 1989), Jon III (b. 1991), William (b. 1993), Gracie Mei (b. 2000), who is adopted from China, and another baby girl from India, Asha Bharati (b. 2006).

Huntsman is also a self-proclaimed fan of the progressive rock genre and on July 30, 2007, attended a concert by progressive metal band Dream Theater. Later that day, Huntsman signed a proclamation creating “Dream Theater Day” on that date for the state of Utah. According to Dream Theater’s website, Huntsman is a keyboard player. Huntsman also joined REO Speedwagon on the piano for two songs during their concert at the Utah State Fair on September 16, 2005.

Huntsman has been awarded six honorary doctorate degrees.[14]

Solid family values and although I do not like REO Speedwagon and do not know about “Dream Theater”, I’d say Jr. has had a rockin’ cool social life. Furthermore, as president I think he’d definitely be against abortion, for gun rights, and guide healthcare correctly in that it should be based on the private market and people using their own money to purchase their own care.

None of this is too liberal for my taste.

It appears Tim Pawlenty, former governor of Minnesota and oft mentioned presidential candidate, decided to commit political suicide yesterday by condemning Sarah Palin for using “gunsite” symbols on a congressional campaign map in 2010.

Unfortunately for Pawlenty, he never took the time to research and find that the symbols used by Palin were actually surveyor’s symbols as opposed to the very distinct bullseye symbols used by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on their map still available at their website. The DCCC response to questions about their symbol choice was it didn’t matter because a company like Target uses a similar symbol as their logo.

It’s a little after 11 and just fell to 32.0 under a bare red oak near the house. Gonna be a cold one tonight. Potted plants are either in the garage or on the covered patio and pulled up next to the house and covered with sheets. A young orange tree in the yard that froze last winter and came back from the roots is draped with a sheet as is a bamboo palm next to the house that likewise froze last year. Water shut off to the oustide faucets and the barn. Barn doors and windows are closed against the cold.

    G’night all and stay warm.

Good morning all. Everybody still freezing? A steady 25 out here on the north bank of the Brazos until Sunup. Currently 29.5 on the front porch and on pole on the fence, same for the pansy bed near the covered patio. Covered patio now has 32 even; sheet-covered plants in big pots huddle next to the house, and I hope they’ve survived. Plants in the garage are fine.

Spouse forgot to shut off the water in the barn last night or close all the windows. Barn was still at 28 at 7:30, and the hose in the middle of the aisle had a few weak squirts coming out of the nozzle once I could turn the valve. Hope we make it above 32 soon or there will be consequences….

No complaints about not being able to wear winter clothes–and many at the same time. The mares are running around the pastures to keep warm and then grazing a bit. Mariposa is snoozing on the guest bed.

As for Mr. Obama’s speech today at the memorial for the victims of the nutcase assassin in Tucson, let us hope it does not parallel the Wellstone memorial.
