I always get a chuckle out of stories like this. The reason is two-fold – First, it’s a troofer-esque “I am repulsed but yet I cannot look away” funny story. It’s like the scabbone prophet in the trench coat on the street corner screaming about the end of the world. They’re what make life interesting. Second, it’s fun to watch the more libertine chuckleheads use one lone nut to paint all conservatives as homophobic:

A widely distributed e-mail written by Delgaudio for the Public Advocate about TSA, claims the pat downs are part of a “Homosexual Agenda.” And he criticizes TSA’s non-discrimination hiring policy.

“It’s the federal employee’s version of the Gay Bill of Special Rights… That means the next TSA official that gives you an ‘enhanced pat down’ could be a practicing homosexual secretly getting pleasure from your submission,” Delgaudio wrote.

In memory of Junior “Peanuts” Willett, this was his favorite hymn. God has blessed us all that had the opportunity to know him.

Dire prognosis at birth couldn’t crack Peanuts’ spirit

Junior Willett, known as Peanuts, makes his rounds selling peanuts at City Hall Annex in 1987. He died at 82 in Tomball.

    SERVICES FOR ‘JUNIOR’ WILLETT

    • Visitation: 5-8 p.m. tonight, with a rosary to be said at 7 p.m., at Claire Brothers Funeral Home, 7901 Hillcroft, Houston, TX, 77081

    • Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Friday at Resurrections Catholic Church, 915 Zoe, Houston, TX, 77020

When Archie “Junior” Willett was born in the 1920s with cerebral palsy, doctors predicted he would never walk or talk. But he proved them wrong and

achieved a life of success despite that dire prognosis.

He didn’t receive much formal schooling, but his daddy showed him how to count, taught him the letters of the alphabet, how to tell time and how to

read his name. Despite his disabilities and limited speech, Willett parlayed his father’s rudimentary instruction into a successful entrepreneurial

career selling bags of peanuts to the crustiest of customers — Houston police officers, attorneys, prosecutors and other civil servants.

For decades, Willett’s late mother would drive him to the old Houston Police Department building at 61 Riesner and the former criminal courthouse at

301 San Jacinto, where she would drop him off and wait in the car as he hauled his cart up the stairs and went inside alone, wandering from office to

office and selling bags of the treats for 50 cents each, earning himself the nickname “Peanuts.” In a 1963 Houston Chronicle article, reporter Jack

Weeks called Willett “courage with a peanut bag over its shoulder.”

Willett, 82, died Nov. 20 in Tomball from sepsis and complications of a heart attack, family members said……………………(more)

For those with more money than brains, here’s a rare opportunity to attend a woo-woo symposium.

We will join the dolphins in the gentle warm waters learning directly from them while experiencing their unconditional love. And then we will come together in a beautiful oceanside setting to share our personal experiences and to hear the actual life stories of time travel to Mars from our expert Speakers and co-leaders with Joan and Jean-Luc. Their story is one of synchronicity and divine guidance. Living in different parts of the northern hemisphere, these people were unexpectedly brought together to complete a specific task of revealing galactic civilizations other than our own, to Earth’s population.
    – – –
    INCLUDED WITH THE SYMPOSIUM:

–5 nights and 6 days to relax and be inspired at the beautiful King Kamehameha Beach Hotel, sacred grounds located oceanside in the pretty little village of Kailua-Kona.
–Extensive time to listen, learn, swim and share with our fun and fascinating eloquent speakers: Andrew Basiago, Alfred Webre, Laura Magdalene Eisenhower, Joan Ocean and Jean-Luc Bozzoli. There will be close, personal time with our keynote speakers. They are fellow time travelers on our historic path to enlightenment.
–A morning at the Beach to practice Snorkeling.
–Two days on the boat to swim among the dolphins; often pods of 200-300 Spinners.
–Fascinating Presentations with films and slides about dolphins, whales, higher consciousness, teleportation, life on other planets and the new world we are creating now.
–Contact meditations to commune with vast Galactic star nations, our extraterrestrial friends.
–Visionary films with noetic codes to illuminate your awareness/consciousness.
–NASA photographs of the rocky surface of Mars revealing unusual life forms.

Registration fees are due in April 2011, but if you forget, don’t worry. You can travel back in time and pay them.

Just found out my brother-in-law won’t be getting his surgery. There’s a tumor too close to the spine, and the construction of the tumor and related blood vessels make this one that two doctors so far are refusing to touch.

Sister is still trying to deal with her mother-in-law, mother of cancer patient, who seems to have lost mental capacity to care for herself. Sis is trying to maneuver the labyrinth of paperwork and social workers needed to determine where MIL needs to go and trying to get MIL to that place, wherever it is. She tried to clean MIL’s apartment (she’s been released from the nursing home, where MIL was recovering from her hospitalization).

And she’s still recovering from her neck surgery.

She said it’s so dirty that cancer hubby really shouldn’t be there, but thank goodness he was! Sis was trying to cook on the stove, and it was so dirty with unmentionable crud that it caught on fire. She couldn’t move fast enough, but hubby was able to put it out. She physically cannot clean that unit. MIL isn’t eating and probably won’t take her medicines properly, and her body is showing signs of her multiple illnesses. She worries about Mom-in-law being able to take care of herself. The social worker is putting MIL on an emergency track, thank goodness.

I was over there this morning, and we prayed together and talked. I don’t know how she does it, I really don’t. But then, neither one of us feel like she’s doing this alone. I help with what I can, but I’m limited, also.

Ya’ll keep them in your prayers. As Sis said, they’re all facing death over there.

    AMNESTY ALERT!

    Congratulations again.

All of you responded yesterday with a barrage of phone calls and faxes to the reports from the House that Democratic leaders were looking to bring up the DREAM Act amnesty vote on the floor of the House today.

House leadership this morning is now talking about having the vote early next week.

As I have said repeatedly, when you have a crowded tiny calendar like the one for this Lame Duck, every delay is a victory.

That said, we are still in grave danger of losing the amnesty vote in the House.

We asked you yesterday to phone your own Representative. If you haven’t done that yet, please do.

But you are also asking about which Members hold the key.

The answer is that we have to get at least 40 NO votes from the following list of 80 Democrats.

The Democrats in this list are almost the only Democrats we could possibly get to vote against the amnesty. They are the ones who have opposed the Party open-borders leadership at least half the time.

What is scary is that a lot of them are retiring and don’t have the same fear of future elections that may have helped them be mediocre to good on immigration in the past.

You can reach all of these Members through the Capitol Switchboard:

“Catholic” politicians should really learn about their so-called faith before they try to say what it compels them to support.

Illinois’ legislature passed a bill on Dec. 1 that will establish same-sex civil unions in state law. While the state’s Catholic governor Pat Quinn said his faith prompted him to support the bill, his bishop has warned that the governor’s actions clearly contradict Church teaching.

If only there were a place where one could go to see why teaching people Catholic faith incorrectly is wrong…

If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea. Mark 9:42

If only there were a place where one could readily find the true teaching of the Church on marriage…

    This is HUGE.

NASA announced the discovery of alien life today. While not necessarily alien in geographic origin, it is certainly alien in composition. A new species of bacteria was discovered in Mono Lake in California.

What is different about it is that its DNA contains no phosphorus. This bacteria’s (can it really be bacteria if its chemistry is that different?) DNA uses arsenic instead of phosphorus.

NASA scientist Felisa Wolfe Simon will announce that they have found a bacteria whose DNA is completely alien to what we know today. Instead of using phosphorus, the bacteria uses arsenic. All life on Earth [that we were aware of prior to now – wb] is made of six components: carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and sulfur

Someone more familiar w/chemistry can correct me on this, but my understanding is that arsenic is very similar to phosphorus in its chemical properties, but that in no way lessens the magnitude of this discovery.

The way it works with my lunch buddies is we get in the truck, stop at the gate leaving our facility, and the driver asks “Where do you want to eat today?”. We go through our normal five or six restaurants until we hit one where there are no objections. To make a long story longer, we never know where we’re going until we’re already on the way.

“Catholic” politicians should really learn about their so-called faith before they try to say what it compels them to support.

I do try hard to respect everyone’s faith held beliefs, despite the many irreconcilable differences on what is professed as absolute truth and insistent exclusivity among them.

The people of Illinois elected a governor, not a cleric.

Then he said to them, “Then render to Caesar what is of Caesar; and to God what is of God.”

That sounds like pretty good advice to me. Do you think it’s possible that such passages may have been the reason for the governor’s statements?

Exactly. He should therefore keep his mouth shut about whatever he thinks Catholic doctrine is, especially when it is patently false, and stop committing the sin of scandal.

My point was not that the governor is or is not a cleric. My point was that he, like many many other Catholic politicians not only fail to follow the doctrines of the faith they espouse, but actively work to undermine them. They are free (as are you) to believe in whatever they want. What they are not free to do is misrepresent the teachings of the Church.

#36 Hamous, this is nonsensical, irrational, and unsubstantiated by any facts whatsoever. But at least you’re consistent. And btw, it’s not necessary to capitalize “Godless.” The godless are usually not easily offended. 😉

I love it when the Godless start quoting scriptures. It’s like getting parenting advice from Ma Barker.

Whether you accept the fact or not, non-believers do indeed find wisdom in the various Scriptures as well as in the various interpretations of them. What they don’t find is absolute or exclusive truth. If you do, that’s cool by me. Just keep it separate from government authoritah.

Does your chosen faith require public servants such as politicians that make decisions affecting everyone to make them based entirely upon its teachings?

Are you trying to be dense and obtuse? I’ll type slower so you can keep up better.

The Governor in Illinois should not be telling the world that his faith (ostensibly Roman Catholicism) compels him to work toward legalizing same-sex “marriage”, when it has always been the doctrine of the Church that marriage is a bond between one man and one woman – only. This is not a new development. It has been the teaching since the very beginning of Christianity 2,000 years ago. It has been the teaching of Judaism since Abraham 3,800 years ago.

Does your chosen faith require public servants such as politicians that make decisions affecting everyone to make them based entirely upon its teachings?

No, but read carefully here, it does require the faithful to follow Church doctrine and to teach that doctrine with true fidelity.

Scandal is an attitude or behavior which leads another to do evil. The person who gives scandal becomes his neighbor’s tempter. He damages virtue and integrity; he may even draw his brother into spiritual death. Scandal is a grave offense if by deed or omission another is deliberately led into a grave offense. CCC2284 ff.

That would be fine, a lot of people misunderstand others’ points, but he continues to argue the wrong point even after you’ve attempted to clarify. The only thing I can come up with is he has no argument so he goes off on a tangent. Regardless, you end up you’re wasting your time.

Does Catholic doctrine support separation of church and state, as some interpretations of Matt 22:21 suggest, or does it favor a merge of civil and religious authoritah?

What I take away from this conversation is that the basis for your opposition to government recognition of civil unions is predominately based on your chosen faith

Actually, it’s fully based on my chosen faith, which informs my moral judgement that same-sex “marriage” is intrinsically wrong.

and that you have no problem with Catholic politicians directing the force and power of government to impose your beliefs on others.

What I would have no problem with, and would actually celebrate, is for Catholic politicians to act in accordance with their chosen faith (as opposed to their personal interpretation of it). These moral precepts have been demonstrated to promote healthy and happy societies. The moral precepts (actually lack thereof) exhibited by the supporters of same-sex “marriage” have led to the breakdown and dissolution of the societies in which they were practiced.

Where are the National Association of Gals on this threat that could take women back to Cro-Magnon times. Hell, its already happening – the mooslim father that killed his daughter(s) because they brought disgrace upon him.

We moderns have managed to combine an incredible mastery of technical knowledge and information with an astonishing ignorance of the traditional wisdom once possessed by an illiterate village elder, and evident for all to see on every page of history. Spend more than you earn and you’ll go broke. Give someone something for nothing, and he’ll soon expect something for nothing on a regular basis. Fail to hold people accountable for their bad behavior, and they’ll continue to act badly. Give people an excuse to fail, and they’re more likely to fail. Let aggression go unpunished, and you’ll get more aggression.

    Homie don’t play that.

In addition to the things you listed, the progressives in government have for decades been insidiously promoting the breakdown of the two parent nuclear family via the tax code and a slew of social programs. Its all very destructive to the fabric and future of America.

It’s all a part of a larger libertine philosophy that all belief systems are on an equal plane, that no one system is any better than another. We’ve been drifting in that direction for a long time. 30 years ago could you have imagined that we would be having a debate as inane as this?

As our story goes, Moore was arrested Nov. 17 for violating Section 28-20 of the municipal code — “Entering restrooms of opposite sex” — after an officer determined that she was legally Nathanial Tyrone Moore, an individual with a penis.

Call me old-fashioned but there was a time in this country when “an individual with a penis” was more commonly referred to as “a man”. Now, supposedly serious people are actually claiming that this freak can choose which public bathroom he can use.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, faux libertarians are leading this country towards anarchy which necessarily leads to tyranny. Thanks. Thanks a bunch, ya morons.

Something mentioned in this story that I did not know is that the reason arsenic is poisonous to most organisms is because it is so similar to phosphorus that it interferes with “normal” biochemistry.

Will have to go back to the orthopedic clinic tomorrow to have the splint and bandage changed. It has slipped some owing to it is large at the elbow and doesn’t fit under normal size sleeves so putting on and taking off clothes has made it slide and become uncomfortable on the wrist incision. Not good.

Coming in late from a wake. Looking over the comments. I’m too wissin’ tired to get all up in the homosexual debate, although I will admit Bob is a master and self-imposed incomprehension of relatively simple concepts.

Your discussion of lunchtimes reminded me of one lunch I took with my programming team, back in my corporate life. The Cloister belongs to a church downtown (Episcopal, Methodist? I can’t remember) that has – or had – a Treebeard’s restaurant in it. If you haven’t been to Treebeard’s, you should. They have really good Cajun food; my favorite was the shrimp etouffee. Anyway, we were unable to break for lunch until almost 1:45, and the walk to The Cloister took us about 15 minutes. There we were, 2:00 and famished, to find the servers were beginning to clear the steam tables. The looks on our faces must have been pitiful, for they waved us over. I’ve never had so many shrimp in my etouffee before, for they were picking out the best pieces and biggest slices of whatever we ordered and served us with their best smiles.

We had our pick of those long wooden tables, and we were given baskets loaded with their French bread for sopping up our various gravies and sauces.

One of my best. lunches. ever.

In the days when I used to get a few consulting gigs downtown, I would treat clients to lunch at the Cloister (aka: parish hall.) The kitchen facilities there are awesome and spacious.

Their organ is even more awesome. I still drop by now and then to hear it. It was under the (patient) direction of choirmaster/organist Bob Simpson that I first attempted to learn to sing. Both of my daughters were confirmed there.
