In what is nothing more than another attempt to alleviate the self-loathing perpetually experienced by Houston’s trendy hipsters, the City of Houston is now sponsoring a “farmers market” at Discovery Green:
At the recently opened farmers market outside Houston’s City Hall, Laura Spanjian, the city’s peppy new sustainability director, was in her element.
With a reusable cloth bag tucked under her arm, she bounded around the colorful cluster of stands, shaking hands and pointing out vendors — raw foods! local ingredients! grass-fed Texas beef! — as a Latin band played.
…
The local-food craze is the most visible of these efforts, with the opening of the weekly farmers market in October and the planting of nearby Michelle Obama-style vegetable gardens tended by city hall staff members. But Houston is also transforming itself into an electric-car hub, a national leader in wind-power investment and an advocate for energy efficiency.
I hate to break it to these trendy dirtbags but Houston has had a fine farmers market for quite some time:
Canino Produce Co. has been Houston’s farmers market since June 1958. At that time this family owned business on Airline Drive occupied approximately 3800 sq ft. and over the years as business grew so did our location to now over 20,000 square feet. Since the beginning we have always stocked the freshest and finest produce available and sell it for the lowest price possible.
Canino Produce using as much local and Texas fruit and vegetables as possible, however to keep our vast variety we ship in produce from all over the United States and the world.
I’m sure that last part is what irks the Bohemians. It’s no longer cool to import food. Oh, and the fact that people actually make money providing goods and services and employee local people.

Well, at least it isn’t a Christian display from a government-funded museum. That’ll cause people like bob42 to cry foul authoritah.
More people are now starting to realize that the Obama administration may be overplaying its hand on the Wikileaks matter. Is there nothing this bunch of thugs won’t do, including compromising national security, to further it’s own Marxist agenda?

You’ve got the lame ducks coming back to try and ram through the Dreams of Amnesty Act. You’ve got the whole Wiki-leaky drama unfolding. You’ve got DHS/ICE seizing and shutting down websites. You’ve got the recent North Korea/South Korea conflict….. So just what was channel 39’s 9PM lead news story you ask? The scuffle between the Texans A. Johnson and… Read more »
Well, I was thinking about gardening & landscaping, Tedtam! The grown-up equivalent of playing in the dirt.
Although I made a mean mud pie as a kid.
Gives new meaning to the phrase “dirty old man”.

I wonder, is dirt still good for us as we get older?
I always said that kids should ingest their weight in dirt before age five!
This whole wimpyleaks thing reminds me of a story I read (sci-fi, of course): A man discovers a machine that can go back in time. He makes a movie of Alexander the Great that garners reviews at the unbelievably realistic scenes. He and his cohorts make a lot of money. They are working on a second movie, and word gets… Read more »

You make some good points about how the diplomatic leaks probably aren’t that damaging and may even enlighten Americans who give a damn what their gubmint has been up to. But that PFC has gotta spend a good part of the rest of his rotten life in a military or civilian cell.

At least I have one up on you.
Lovely left me with some of her cookies!
She is safely ensconced in the tow truck as we speak, making her way back to campus.
#42 – MsTT thank GOD it wasn’t only me today!
I literally attempted to type up one delivery order + 1 rate confirmation (probably no more than 150 characters total between the 2) from before sunrise this morning until AFTER 1:30 pm!!
The phone was NOT my friend today!
Hope yall had a wunnerful Holiday!
Psst… Hey Buddy…
Wanna buy an aircraft carrier? Cheap?
I don’t think Steve Johnson quite understands his relationship with God.
Oh, crap, is this day going down the toilet! The day started out well. Lovely came in for a quick drive-by visit, which was nice. She picked up what she needed, then headed out. Especially those authoritarian bastidges who are opposed to legalization simply because they want to control other folks lives.
Just because.
Maybe you need to step up distribution of those silly “Tolerance” bumper stickers. Not enough people are getting your message.
…Or my ex-wife’s panties. Do you really want me to look for her Tutu too?
Here’s the crux of the biskit dude:
Legalizing pot right now would only further empower and expand gummint.
We need to learn how to prioritize or the unintended consequences will slap us upside the head.
They look funny with a tutu.
I’d just like to remind y’all that I’m not wearing any pants.
Depends on the date.
And what part of town he’s in.
Fiscal conservative? Yea, and I’m the Queen of England. Look guy; You make all sorts of assumptions a normally intelligent person would not make.’ In this case, you’re assuming I’m against the legalization of pot because I’m an authoritarian bastige. I’ve stated before that the legalization of pot would become the biggest Big Government program we’ve ever seen—-bigger than the… Read more »

It’s an effing plant, dude. Prohibition has never worked and will never work. Yet, some still support it despite the demonstrable ineffectiveness and substantial costs. Well yes, That can be proven by the extremely high number of votes the Party that champions an end to the WoD gets every cycle. Fiscal conservative? Yea, and I’m the Queen of England. #29 crazy aunt Most military sites were like that. You could bring in regular music CD’s, but nothing recordable. They had special deals for system maintenance as well. If they had to swap out a disk drive (back then they were 19″ rack-mount for a couple hundred megabytes), they would open the clamshell and leave the disk pack. The disk… Read more »
Thank God I have empowered my government to prohibit me from making decisions that may harm me! I just read Big Government’s latest article on the leak. The little POS private (and yes, I am wissed over this incident), said he took a R/W CD into his work and lip-synched to Lady Gaga lyrics while downloading the info. I took a programming course at A&M that was taught by a former programmer for the Pentagon. (I can… Read more »
I wonder what they thought of coke & smack?
After all, they’re from plants, too.
Speaking of smug…
I guess they all fell for the fear-mongering, the dang intolerant ignorant bastiges.
#22 Sarge, I’m aware of authoritarians and those who fall for the fear mongering lies our government has told for 40+ years. Because we all know there aren’t any actual voters who want to keep the WoD going. But I didn’t want to personally insult you or Darren. It’s an effing plant, dude. #23 Last time I was back in Florida my brother-in-law told me about a mink attacking a live well full of fish while they were in the boat. They kept knocking him off and he’d just jump back in.
I think its because he was Omega Theta Pi.

bob, For the internet gambling thing, the government does not get to see your online transactions, the credit card companies already had a list of companies that transactions are not allowed to, they simply added the online sites. In addition, financial institutions are required to review all transactions for a variety of things, so most simply added in a few… Read more »
#14 bob because some authoritarian idiots thought it was a proper role of government to try and prohibit online gambling. Don’t forget detecting money laundering because of the WoD & WoT. Some Fiestas also have it.
Political correctness has ruined this country. Right along with diversity.

Glad you mentioned Canino Produce Co. I broke our bottle of good Mexican vanilla extract on the floor this past weekend and I need to replace it. Canino Produce Co. carries the good stuff for a reasonable price. I love that place.
I think increased government regulation of the internet and other electronic technologies that enable free speech is ultimately inevitable. Both pubbies and dems want to do it, and already have their foot in the door. For example, they passed laws that sidestepped the 4th amendment and gave the government visibility into everyone’s online financial transactions — because some authoritarian idiots… Read more »
