Good morning all. Foggy out here on the north bank of the Brazos at Richmond and 59 at 6.
English moors type fog, with haloed yard lights peeking out here and there in the neighborhood, a cool damp surrounding all. Not quite heavy enough to have fog tendrils invade the barn as sometimes happens, partially obscuring the far end of the aisle. As the mares go out they leave trails through the dew and small wakes in the mist on their way to pasture. The blanket soon enough thins and rises with the Sun. The world below yawns and stretches to greet another day. Thank you, Lord.

That nice President Obama is really all about changing how the US is perceived by our friends in Europe.
“The Atlantic is getting wider,” said Anton Boerner, head of Germany’s Foreign Trade Association, who spoke of a “creeping alienation” between America and Europe

But…but…but….there is no compulsion in religion!
Only when talking to liberal Westerners who do not understand the Islamic concept of Koranic abrogation.
Their version of God can – and does – change his mind. Allah’s version of truth is not unchanging, but varies according to the political climate that Mohammed was dealing with. After he got rolling with his “religion,” he no longer needed the Jews or Christians, so they went from “getting along” to “removing their heads”.

1775: Founding of the Marine Corps
A legacy is born
During the American Revolution, many important political discussions took place in the inns and taverns of Philadelphia, including the founding of the Marine Corps.
A committee of the Continental Congress met at Tun Tavern to draft a resolution calling for two battalions of Marines able to fight for independence at sea and on shore.
The resolution was approved on November 10, 1775, officially forming the Continental Marines.
As the first order of business, Samuel Nicholas became Commandant of the newly formed Marines. Tun Tavern’s owner and popular patriot, Robert Mullan, became his first captain and recruiter. They began gathering support and were ready for action by early 1776.

Hamous, did your dad serve around the same time I did?
He enlisted in 1951, basic at Pendelton, brief stay on Okinawa before going to Korea. I don’t think he was there too long before being wounded. Unfortunately he never talked about it so I don’t know many details. He died in ’74. Most of what I know about his service I learned from an uncle.

Our dates look like I was in the batch that replaced him. Most Marines don’t talk much about the Corps except for day to day things. The heavy talking we do among ourselves, as I will do today. Telling the “uninitiated” brings up too much pain. Telling a fellow Marine heals the wounds.

Oletimer – He was nearly cut in half by machine gun fire. One of my first memories was being fascinated by the scars. I learned early not to ask him about it. He didn’t get angry, just wouldn’t talk about it. Besides what little I learned from my uncle, all I have are some old photos taken with a Brownie, an old Japanese pocket knife from Okinawa, and his Purple Heart.

Hamous, you can write and get his military records. If you want more information, please let me know. I got my dad’s after he passed away and learned alot more.
One of the best moments I ever had was watching my dad introduce himself at our Marine Corps association meeting. He was one of the few pre WW2 Marines there. We had a large association. Over 600 Marines, including three medal of honor recipients. Then I remember him beaming as he said, “This is my wife Anne, mother of three Marines and grandmother of another.”

Here’s a bumper sticker for you former Devil Dogs.
All kidding aside – I have nothing but the highest admiration and respect for the US Marine Corps. You have done something that I was not able to.
I will always be indebted to all of you, as well as anyone who served our country.
Well done.

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Wednesday he intends to take commercial flights home when he moves up to speaker in the new Congress.
“Over the last 20 years, I have flown back and forth to my district on commercial aircraft, and I am going to continue to do that,” he told reporters.
What an excellent precedent and example if Boehnar follow through and sticks with this decision.

Several months ago my family invited another family over for a night of games. We played a card game (called BS btw 🙁 ) and during that game the oldest daughter of the invited family would text, text, text, and text. While texting her whole world was blocked out except, of course, for texting. When her mother asked her to put her phoe away, she lapped it but leaving it be lasted but a small moment. Within I’d say 20 seconds, she was texting again. Asked again by her mother to ditch the phone and pay attention to those at the game table the daughter reacted in a similar manner. The mother got more persistent to put the phone away and the daughter got more resistent. It was like the daughter could not physically or mentally let go of using the phone. I jumped in and told the daughter that her momma also had a cell phone and all she had to do was click a few numbers and cancel the account the daughter was using. After a few moments I made the open comment directed straight at the daughter that texting was her drug. And, suddenly and vehemently she, yup, you can see it coming, denied it.
Well, check this out:
The latest study about teens and texting is nothing to LOL about: Those who do it the most are also more likely to have sex or use drugs and booze.
Even the researchers said they were startled by the strong link between what they call “hyper-texting” and risky behavior.
Keep an eye on the phone use parents.
Teen ‘hypertexters’ are more likely to have sex, do drugs, submit to peer pressure

A story published 8 November in Newsweek labeled Utah “the new economic Zion.” The article highlights Utah’s capacity to attract new businesses and prosper during a recession.
One reason for Utah’s economic muscle, Newsweek said, is the state’s religious population.
“Utah’s people are, indeed, an employer’s dream,” the article said. “They are healthy, hard workers (pouring in 48 hours a week on average), and exceedingly stable, with the highest birthrates in the nation. The large number of young Mormons who spend two years on a conversion mission also means a huge swath of the population earned its sales stripes in hostile terrain.”
