O.K. I’m off to vote and chit-chat with our precinct judge. Then tonight I’ll be part of the 100 million watching the returns. That got me thinking, watching election returns is a whole loot like watching the ping-pong championships,

They happen every two years and in the end, China is going to win.

Just got back from helping Handsome Son vote. It’s a good thing I did – the machine confused him. I had to get all sworn in, promising only to help him do what he wanted to do, not to lead him or tell him how to vote.

I wonder if all the election clerks in the heavily Democrat precincts have to take the same vote?

I was just thinking – after today, perhaps I shall change my gravatar from the reamer back to the screw. I may have to wait until 2012 before the Queen can reappear. The Queen doesn’t like getting screwed. Well, not by TBO, anyway.

I had a delightful surprise this morning. We got an inch of rain overnight and it brought out one of my favorite tame raccoons, Toebiter, who was last seen in July and believed must be dead after this elapsed time. During the summer, he had caught the chupacabra rash and lost all his fur — looked quite pitiful. Now he shows up this morning fully re-furred and looking mah-velous. I gotta go to the store after lunch and get him some grapes.

Great day for an election. Started out here at 58 at 7:30 and 0.40″ of rain in the trusty gauge. Northerly breeze gained strength and now sets the banners aflyin’ on the porch and releases more acorns and pecans from their home bases to scatter before it. Sunlight returns and banishes the gray clouds. That should help boost turnout.

The driveway is covered in the multitude again, making walking to fetch the paper before daylight a bit of a challenge. The big yard light across the street covers part of the road end of our driveway, and our post light near the walkway to the front door covers some near the house, but in the dark of night they are relatively dim sentinels. Acorns sometimes cruch beneath the footstep, but frequently they roll and present an obstacle to steady progress.

Getting ready for tonight’s celebration. God Bless America. God Bless Texas.

Last week I wrote a post about airline security “enhancements”. Well, they’re here. I get to test them out next Monday.

On top of the planned changes, governmental security people are layering more procedures on the new ones because of the allahbombers in the Middle East. According to this article, we now have to completely empty pockets, take off rings (don’t know what happens if you can’t), and be thoroughly and vigorously groped – even though all of the explosive packages were shipped from the Middle East and all were in cargo.

It looks like instead of getting to the airport an hour before flight time, we need to add another half hour.

Aha, seems by all reports the rout is on. Love this refrain from Johnny Horton’s The Battle of New Orleans that was #1 on the pop charts 4-27-59.

“Yeah, they ran through the briars
And they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes
    Where the rabbit couldn’t go
    They ran so fast
That the hounds couldn’t catch ’em
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.”

Referring of course to Andy Jackson’s defeat of the British in the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812. Andy Jackson would likely have been a Tea Party member were he alive today.

#26 Yup, three chords is all it takes for pop music. The root, the fourth and the fifth. If you want to get fancy you can toss in some variations on the chords or the bass line, but it pretty much remains the same.

That’s apparently only what will be spent in India. Not included is all the logistical costs (2xAF1 + several C-17 + air cover + tankers). Also missing is how many man-years have been consumed with planning a global trip for 3,000 people.

LAS VEGAS — A power outage in the Henderson area briefly affected polls at Schofield Middle School, according to Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller, while long lines in Elko threatened to hold up the results past 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Miller said voters would be allowed to vote, but added that statewide results may be delayed.

“No results of any statewide races can be reported in any county until all polls across the state are closed,” Miller said in a statement. He could not say how long the vote count would take.
