Victor Davis Hanson talks of American Groupspeak:

Don’t discuss the deficit. Instead, call borrowing “stimulus.” Trillions are not much different from billions.

Keep silent about Social Security and Medicare. If the system is insolvent, it cannot be because we are living longer, retiring earlier, often taking out more than we paid into the pot, abusing disability provisions, or facing an aging and soon-to-be-shrinking population. Instead, rail at fat cats who need to pay more payroll taxes, and at wasteful programs like defense that can be cut to ensure more for the elderly and needy.

Most Americans choose to be called “cowards” by Attorney General Eric Holder rather than accept his invitation to talk about race on his terms.

Closing the border is a taboo subject. Also taboo is the phrase “illegal alien.” Speak instead about the need for social justice, not the enforcement of mere laws. Illegal aliens broke no real law when enticed northward by greedy employers.

There are many others. When you collectively look at the sheer number of subjects that are now taboo you realize how damaging Obama’s brand of cultural Marxism has been to our national dialogue. We can most likely expect a good tongue-lashing next Wednesday:

We do not quite know how Americans will vote next week, in part because citizens fear to talk openly about their concerns and instead employ groupspeak. We suspect that in the privacy of the voting booth, they may prove angrier and more frustrated than we think.

But why not, when they know that candor and honesty can earn a presidential lecture, a job firing or a lawsuit?

A good friend of mine who works for H.P. (and worked there when Fiorina was at the helm) is not at all impressed with her leadership ability. This is a friend of mine who is very involved in Scout leadership, so I really do trust his judgment on this issue.

I’ve been expecting the guys with butterfly nets to show up at my front door anyway and ship me off to re-education camp. Now that I’m about ready to draw Social Security, they will probably just send me to the cracker factory instead. I’ll admit that I’m not the brightest bulb in the chandelier (actually I am but I don’t like to brag), but I still cannot figure out how the insolvent Medicare fund is going to pay $500 billion of the estimated $1 trillion cost of obamacare just through the elimination of waste, fraud, and abuse. That I want to see – of course, unless the obamacare was passed, I guess that there was no need to get rid of the $500 billion in waste, fraud, and abuse that exists in the Medicare program.Maybe I just don’t understand obamaspeak, but I fear I really do.

I am not a citizen or resident in California; therefore I do not have a dog in that fight; but I would rather not vote for anyone as vote for her. After losing the election…I hope she enjoys a peaceful and long life in obscurity.

As to Carley, she’s a flake and a failure at HP. No one really seems to know how she got that gig to start with, and the Board fired her after she took their stock value down by 50%. However, everything is relative, and a ferret would probably be a better Senator than the one they have now – and she would probably be right in her element with all the other flakes in DC.

Good morning all. So the front arrived last night and some lucky folks got rain with it. We got a few drops I’m told by spouse who heard them fall on the garden room roof. I only heard occasional acorns crash on the roof, much louder than rain. But a breezy and dry 70 at 6 sure helps the mood. Currently 72 with 5% humidity, windchimes active and melodious, leaves skipping across the yard, banners on the porch fluttering. What a relief to have Fall back where it belongs.

As of Tuesday’s voting, Fort Bend County had 48,636 early voters. Looking to push over 50,000 when yesterday’s tally is available. Turnout continues strong.

The problem with HP was the fact that they tried to become something they were not, with the purchase of Compaq, and Compaq’s purchase of Digital. If HP had stayed with their core business and did not try to move into the services branch they would still be the big dog. I know it’s different times and conditions now. This post is not to pick on or dis anyone, but I was just thinking about absentee voting. When I was growing up, we went to town in the wagon on election day and stayed til all the results were in. Ray Stewart (Stewart’s Drugstore) would hang a blackboard on the front of the store and call Lufkin about every half hour and post the latest counts. Even as a little feller we learned the importance of voting. Nobody went home til after the final count was posted, usually about 10:00PM. Even as I became old enough to vote no one voted absentee except soldiers and shut-ins. People would skip a cup of drug store coffee to be sure they had their poll tax money and showed their I.D. to the precinct chairman. It was important that people saw your car at the polling place and knew that you had voted. Those habits are still with me. I don’t vote til election day and chit-chat (never about voting) at the precinct for about 15 minutes. It still makes me feel warm inside to do it that way.

I figure I have had about an 80% success rate with HP laptops. The first one I ever purchased eventually experienced some sort of power surge that fried it so that it would not turn on. I was able to salvage the hard drive out of it and use it as an external USB drive. I replaced that HP with an identical one and the boy uses it today. The wife bought a Compaq laptop and now the girl uses that one. We both have brand new HP laptops that are still running strong.

I do not really have any brand loyalty. It is only a coincidence that HP seemed to have the best bang for your buck when it was time to purchase a new laptop. That and if you have two lap tops that can swap power supplies is a real convenience.

On the ink side, I worked for an aftermarket inkjet manufacturer in the past. HP integrated the print head with the ink tank on their popular 500 series Desktop printers in the 90s and made millions. Since they had the largest market share, we focused most of our attention on remanufacturing their products. We had to remanufacture HP products because of the little circuit strip/print head on the outside. The Canons, Epsons, and Lexmarks did not have the circuit strip so we were free to reverse engineer and create a compatible product for the ink tank.

Why do you think you could get an inkjet printer for $99 because they knew that you would be on the hook for at least $200-400 more in ink before something else newer and better came along that you would buy and start the whole process over again.

The cheap printer was like the free sample the drug dealer give out to get you hooked.

Your reasoning for not voting for Fiorina omits the fact that Jerry Moonbeam is ever so much worse. Sometimes you hold your nose and vote against the worst one.

Bravo! I also prefer to vote on the actual election day. This go-round in Harris Co I chickened out due to the uncertainty following the fire that destroyed a lot of the e-slates. I did early voting this morning at the Acres Homes Multi-service Center in NW Houston. They had plenty of e-slates. It was busy but line was short.

Middle-aged woman, at e-slate next to me, called attendant for help because she could not figure out how to operate the console to put in her access code. Then called for help again because she had evidently punched Straight Dem and then wondered why there were no ballot selections. Apparently punching straight ticket takes you on into the propositions. She thought the machine was not working.

I guess that would depend on your particular sense of humor. But me, I don’t find blue people funny… not so much. However, those blue guys that play percussion on everything imaginable are pretty entertaining, although not in a funny way exactly.

Now I am awake enough (I hope) to revisit my muddled comment about Carly Fiorina. How could she POSSIBLY be a worse choice than Barbara Boxer?

So my original statement, Sometimes you hold your nose and vote against the worst one, still stands. 8)

Fort Bend County early voting total through Wednesday is 63,201; mail-in ballots received 6,360.

Harris County is the one to watch on November 2 because of the voting machine situation and the standby paper ballots. Vote early and help make the paper ballot use unnecessary. Much easier to cheat the count with the paper ones Still not a peep about investigation into the warehouse fire that destroyed the machines, hmmmmm.

Thanks to JBB #26 for the info.

No secret, but it is a privilege 😉 Most sites won’t let you embed images stored on their site because it eats up their bandwidth, so it wouldn’t do any good for you to have the privilege anyway. The image above is already on my site. It would be unwise to give all users the ability to upload images to my site since that’s how harmful bugs get spread.

It is still a tradition in Austin County on election night for all the candidates and supporters and the general public to gather in the County Courthouse lobby in Bellville, and outside on the grounds, to wait for the returns as they are posted and updated on a huge chalkboard.

Shannon and I spent many nights up there. It’s a lot of fun and I took my daughter when she was young to get a flavor of that Norman Rockwell scene of America.

I made Indian Butter Chicken for the first time tonight, and asked him to taste it to see if he liked it. He put his hand over his stomach and shook his head, saying “I’m sick of seeing food, I really am.”

Bob, you have permission to come out of the corner.

I’ll come out the corner if/when I learn to express my opinions in a less assertive/provocative manner that does not invite broad brushed scorn from narrow minded self righteous authoritarians. I’ll work on that, but can not guarantee success.

I do admit responsibility for coming on too strong too often, and I’ll work on that too.

And yes, I’ve been spending quality time with my “new” 32 year old Rhodes stage piano. I’m still digging into the repair manual because the instrument needs a good bit of work. It has problems with the sustain pedal and the keyboard that will require taking it down to the empty case to fix, and I want to be knowledgeable enough to do that to it (and put it back together) before I dig in to the actual instrument.

In the mean time, even with sustain not working and the noisy bouncy keyboard, I’m enjoying it, and so is my daughter. If y’all are lucky, maybe I post a vid of us doing our very cute 4-hand version of Heart & Soul.
