One of the cackling hens from the view demonstrates again how disconnected from reality so-called feminists really are. Speaking about the SCHIP program and Michele Bachman, Joy Behar had this to say:

Don’t you think it shows their true colors – these mama grizzlies so-called? I mean she is against a federal program to help poor kids get health insurance, Michele Bachmann. She is no mama grizzly. She is against children. Who is she fooling?

No one can fool you, Joy, that’s for sure. One little problem. Michele Bachman raised five children of her own. Even more astounding, she has foster cared for 23 foster children. And it didn’t take a village. That’s pretty good for a woman who is anti-children.

You would think these idiots would learn when to shut up.

From what I see Joy Behar has had no kids, and Whoopi had one at age 18. Whoopi did become a grandmother at age 34, so maybe that counts some too.

It’s no small wonder Behar never had kids. Who’d want to get that close to her to procreate?

Florida man wins $650k for injuries he sustained when he got too close to a stripper. The resulting injury left him with permanent double vision.

Some would say that’s not such a problem in the strip club.

    G’Morning all from New York
Got here yesterday @ 1:30PM. $25.00 taxi to hotel was $50.00 due to traffic. Daughter was waiting, took taxi to Village to eat (20.00). Meal for 3 $100.00+. Be sure to bring lots of cash. (we did). Sightseeing today and daughter’s play tonight with midnight supper after play. Should be fun. Staying in super hotel just off Times Square. (French Quarter’s Apartments). It is one of the places where dignitaries are indiscreetly set up so they won’t be bothered by the press. Couple weeks ago Gen. McCrystol was here. Price not bad for what you get. ($500.00 and up/ night). Living high on th hog, but seeing NY that most don’t even know exists. I could learn to live like this real quick if my wallet was thicker. Y’all take care of Houston til Monday.

Toward the end of our marriage, the wife “encouraged” me to watch The View (a fave of hers) as one of those “shared interests” the councilors talk about. Picture the “rehab” scenes from A Clockwork Orange. It was torturous. I’m pretty sure that was the first time I confessed to shooting JFK.

I’ll always love that gal, and I still miss her. But throughout the depressing days following the emotionally difficult and financially devastating divorce, three words saw me through, “She’s not here!”

I think I’ll turn on The View just for old times sake. NOT!

Good morning all. Wonderful 46 at 6:30, mists arisin’ in the pastures and turning golden at the Sun’s fingertips an hour later. The mares mosey to the side pasture and walk through shadow and light on the way, tails a silver cascade (Tessa and Mara) or red highlights on black (Cameo) in the light.

Mariposa and Figaro (now off probation and adopted) have engaged in one chariot race around the house so far. She tolerates him until he wants to play, then it’s off to the races that end when she dives under a bed or does a sliding stop into her hidey hole cat carrier in the garden room. This morning her slide shoved the carrier into the base of the plant stand holding the reconstituted cat statue that shattered in an earlier, remarkable race around the house.

That was about three years ago when Berry (RIP) caught a robin outside and brought it to the door, still alive. When we got it away from him it flew into the garden room instead of away. So Berry, Valentine (RIP), and Mariposa were the posse all through the house for about 10 minutes while the robin frantically searched for an exit at about 7-foot elevation (leaving calling cards), followed by the cats mostly at floor level, followed by spouse and me at floor level except for stepping over furniture en route. Somebody knocked the statue off its perch–smithereenies, but enough pieces to reasonably reconstitute it if you turned its bad side to the wall. This morning’s assault set it rocking but not enough to topple it. I fear its days are numbered however.

It’s good to be home after a week freeloading on the relatives in Wisconsin.

Reviews are in. See below for daughters off broadway play. The La Bete comment is about an ON Broadway major production. That’s a real cudo for a critic to rate an off B’Way director over an establishment Director. Makes me Proud (with capital P) as punch of her.

Reesa Graham’s pacing may seem on the slow side – the show is almost three hours long — but one can see that she wants us to savor every implication of what’s going on. She has such a lovely attention to detail. Bet she could do wonders with La Bête.

Bacon on a sidewalk in front of a Mosque in South Carolina – prank or hate crime?

But as Mr. Hussain, a board member at the Islamic Center in Florence, gave it some thought, the incident last Sunday seemed less like an ill-advised gag and more like a cunning and cruel affront. “We thought seriously, and we thought, ‘You know, somebody doesn’t like us,’ ” he told WMBF-TV news in Florence.

Your hypersensitivity is your problem, not mine.

As long as Christians blend their faith with government power, and include their ignorance and intolerance, I’ll keep criticizing and making fun of them for doing so. Especially the politicians, that are more sincere about elections than their religion.

Are you being deliberately obtuse or are you just plain ignorant? I don’t care about your stupid images or your warped sense of humor. I don’t care if someone throws bacon on a sidewalk. What I will continue to point out is when some high and mighty little elitist pissant regularly hurls invectives at people (mainly Christians) and then rationalizes away the exact same behavior exhibited by himself. Your tolerance bumper sticker is hereby revoked.

#56 Tedtam, I accept that criticism as well. I try but sometimes fail to limit my criticism to people like Jim DeMint, who not only use their religion as a vehicle to election, but go out of their way to scare people into voting for them. I think such politicians abuse the natural tendency toward faith held beliefs, and I make no pretense about tolerating that abuse. I will not tolerate it.

As for real people, like the ones I’ve interacted with here, I do try to be sensitive. I reckon I’ll need to try harder. I’ll also need to stress that the objects of my jokes and jabs are the politicians and pundits that see no difference between God and government, and don’t want anyone else to either.

My “politically incorrect” notions are not intended to insult the religious beliefs of any individuals here. But considering that “perception is reality” perhaps that’s too tall a task.

I need to think about that.

I received the following as part of an email sent to me by a well-meaning but I suspect not fully informed friend. Can anyone tell me about these propositions? I thought #3 was a “yes” vote.

State of Texas trying to pass taxation by State on homesteads. Read
    below.
This will affect EVERYONE in the State of Texas. Vote AGAINST
Propositions 2 & 3, unless you want the State to tax your homestead.

We had better pay attention to all the propositions as we vote in November.

PLEASE READ THESE VERY CAREFULLY AND BE PREPARED TO VOTE. SOME OF THESE
LOOK LIKE WASHINGTON (DC) POLICIES HAVE ARRIVED IN AUSTIN !!!!!

On November 3rd, there will be Propositions 1, 2, and 3 allowing the State
of Texas to start taxing Residential Homeowners. So if you own a home,
and these laws are passed, you will be taxed by the State.

I received a flyer from the Secretary of State, Hope Andrade, listing the
Propositions that are up for election in November. I called to question
them before sending this message out to my homeowner friends.

PLEASE VOTE “NO” to Prop. 2 and 3 (HJR 36) unless you want to pay taxes to
the State also for owning a home.

Proposition 2: The proposed amendment would appear on the ballot as
follows: “The constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature to
provide for the ad valor em taxation of a residence homestead solely on the
basis of the property’s value as a residence homestead”.

Proposition 3: The proposed amendment would appear on the ballot as
follows: The constitutional amendment providing the uniform standards and
procedures for the appraisal of property for ad valor em tax purposes”.

If Republicans do indeed claim the large number of seats it looks like they will, it is in large part due to the efforts of DeMint’s Senate Conservatives PAC, which in my personal experience has neither used religion nor fear as a tactic to gain support. He’s also a professional politician that doesn’t hesitate to use natural fear, misconceptions, and religious beliefs to his benefit.

    In DeMint’s own words.

If a person wants to be publicly gay, they should not be teaching in the public schools.

The typical fear mongering politician wants everyone to believe that anyone who is not securely in Sen. Larry Craig’s closet is a flaming pervert extrovert wearing crotchless pink chaps and a muscle shirt, and will only teach kids how to have butt sex with the Village People.

Also in a campaign pitch, he opposed un-wed sexually active heterosexual females teaching in public schools. It’s funny that he didn’t say a damn thing about bar hopping sexually promiscuous males being allowed to teach kids under his version of sharia law government control. Paternalistic authoritarian perhaps? Or just exploiting an ages old double standard for political gains?

DeMint–Master of fear mongering for political gain.

Since the dawn of time, traditional marriage – the union between one man and one woman – has been the building block of civilization, and at no point in our nation’s history has that foundation been under more severe attack than now.

Yes fellow patriots, be afraid. Be very afraid. Teh gaz is coming to git you, invalidate your marriage, and turn your first born son in to a flaming homo! And the only way to stop the destruction of humanity they want is to VOTE FOR ME!!!!

Ignore the influence if you like, but it’s real and it’s well documented in the success of the republican party in the last 2 decades.

Both are socially conservative positions that mention nothing explicit about the influence of religion in politics. If you find those positions to be implicitly religious in nature, that would seem to be more indicative of fear mongering on your part than on the part of Jim DeMint. Social and fiscal conservatism are natural allies rather than being at odds with each other. You’ve continually ignored that alliance for whatever reason, just as “enlightened moderates” (like Charles Johnson) have been doing for years now. The moral ground you guys think you occupy is crumbling beneath your feet.

72 Nope. Not true at all. Unless your of the mindset that treating all people equally under the laws is completely equivalent to “forced acceptance” and “special rights.” Terms that you and DeMint seem fond of.

Also, it was long after the “dawn of time” that societies created various forms of marriage, and those forms have evolved with a good deal of diversity. Also, throughout history paternalism and polygamy have existed and been tolerated.

It’s usually only the young earth creationists that fall for DeMint’s “dawn of time” rhetoric. But apparently big government authoritarians like it too.

Dunno about constututional rights but there is one area where I think gays are denied equal treatment and/or privileges. That is partner privilege, such as a gay person’s access to insurance coverage for the partner. States & companies that recognize civil union handle that sort of issue pretty well.

I am not opposed to civil union for a straight couple either, although why anyone would bother with that these days is beyond me. I couldn’t find the 2010 stats on marriage & cohabitation in the few minutes I had to search, but I believe there are now more couples who cohabit prior to marriage than not. They should be following Dr. Laura’s advice and avoid cohabitation but since the culture as a whole no longer condemns it, it is obviously very common.

Hey, I got sidetracked there. Nothing about civil union makes it a marriage. Guess you could make a case that it opens the door wider to demands for gay marriage. But I still think it is only fair and that is why I support it.

DOMA, DADT, various state laws and amendments are all relatively recent reactions to a few people that wanted to limit the authoritah of government. Each and every one of those acts and ammendments resulted in an increase of gubmint authoritah.

Look folks, if you don’t like same sex marriage, don’t partner up with someone that has the same junk in their pants. Get it? It as simple as that. #88 Sarge, that would probably be pointless.

    Bobby;

You might have more success in debating this issue with me, and even get me to agree with you on some points if you’d limit your discussion to the Constitution.

…because at the point where our interpretation of that document differed, you’d go apecrap.

Interpretations will differ. For example there’s a LST survivor and commenter here who for awhile insisted that the 4th amendment did not recognize an inherent right to privacy, simply because it did not include those exact words.

I don’t see any good coming from arguing about the constitution with you. I just ask that you consider the peaceful action of minding your own stinking business when it comes to individual liberty and free associations.

Dunno about constututional rights but there is one area where I think gays are denied equal treatment and/or privileges. That is partner privilege, such as a gay person’s access to insurance coverage for the partner. States & companies that recognize civil union handle that sort of issue pretty well.

I’ll agree with that, and always have.

The need to call such arrangements a “marriage” is what is unneccessary.

It’s just a shame that the Texas (and other state’s) constitutional amendment is worded to prohibit equal treatment of civil unions, and also prohibits all state agencies treating such associations equally in regard to partner benefits, regardless of the sexual orientation of the partners.

It’s only been less than 20 years that gay “marriage” has even been discussable. Compare that with over 5,000 years of Judeo-Christian civilization. Marriage has always been am important element of civilization, even non-J-C ones. Gays are after more than access to loved ones in a hospital; they are after explicit acceptance of their lifestyle choices and many feel the need to get in everyone else’s faces to get what they want.

Both Judaism and Christianity have changed a lot over the last 2000+ years or so. They have become more diverse in terms of various sects and denominations, undergone various reformations at various times, and the Roman Catholic church has at various times changed its dogmas, often for the betterment of society. I think that overall, that’s a good thing.

Examples of dogma include, but are not limited to, the sanctity of human lofe from the moment of conception to natural death, the Holy Trinity, salvation through The resurrection of Jesus Christ, etc.

Reminds me of my high school years. I played sax and of course we marched at halftimes. The rest of the time we sat in the stands and bet against our team (which sucked those years) and played the occasional song. Every now and then we got brave enough to tweak our band director. One time, when we lost the ball and Mr. Fariss wasn’t looking, the whole alto sax section stood up and yelled “Nuts and bolts! Nuts and bolts! WE’VE BEEN SCREWED!” Then we all nailed our butts to the bleacher seats and tried to look innocent. He stood up and turned around and gave us “the look”. Then he smiled and shrugged his shoulders like “what can you do?” and sat down.

Or maybe it was the “Block that punt, block that pass, knock that quarterback on his *ss!” that did it.

CW scotrs after getting possession following an interception involving a very hard hit that left the receiver and defender injured (fortunately they both walked off under their own power) and the ball bouncing straight into the hands of another defender.

who not only use their religion as a vehicle to election, but go out of their way to scare people into voting for them. I think such politicians abuse the natural tendency toward faith held beliefs, and I make no pretense about tolerating that abuse. I will not tolerate it.

Darren, I intend to “bash” no person’s faith. I do not tolerate politicians who don’t know the difference between god and government, or purposely blur it. Faith groups are voluntary associations. Our association with government is far from voluntary.

I disliked the dishonesty and fear mongering in the NOM ads, but recognize that the right of free speech sometimes includes the right to be dishonest. I also dislike some of the more extreme reactions to prop 8’s passage, but recognize that sometimes free speech can be ugly speech as well.
