10 years ago yesterday, al Qaeda terrorists attacked the USS Cole, killing 17 sailors. Because of events one year later we seem to have forgotten those sailors. There has been no justice for them even though we have the mastermind in custody and know who his conspirators are.

I think Darren linked to this last night, but it bears some additional mention. The head of one of the investigators in the apparent murder of the guy on the jet ski on Falcon Lake was delivered to Mexican authorities in a briefcase.
“Head” in this instance should be taken in the anatomical sense, as opposed to the organizational sense.
This would never have happened if drugs were legalized.

I was just watching the ABC live feed of the Chilean rescue – brought me to tears when Carlos Barrias’ father was able to hug his son – and I noticed a very large Texas flag on wood near the site. Does anyone know what the Texas connection is? I think the rescue hole was drilled by a Texan, but it surprised me to see the flag there.

According to our priest on Sunday, one of the acolytes our parish is sponsoring has been involved in “drilling rescue hole B”. I didn’t catch if he owns the company or is a manager/foreman/supervisor there. -

Now I see a Texas flag in the mine itself and a Texas balloon. We didn’t bury any Texans, did we?

The reason that they have not tried the individuals associated with the USS Cole incident (other than the Captain of the ship who was summarily dismissed) is? They were set for trial but the O administration pulled the case when they were sworn in. Could it be that the real mastermind behind this as well as other incidents is currently residing at 1600 Pennsylvania? #5 – I’ll remind you as well as all the others that Big O is not a moron. He knows exactly what the consequences of his decisions will be and looks forward to continuing to take this nation on the path to destruction.

The slightest imperfection of machining in the gearbox’s componentry, fashioned months before, might have been lying in wait, ready to explode like Apollo 13’s oxygen tanks. Any sort of computer hiccup in the fuel-delivery system — pumping 10 liters per minute into the quad-turbo, 8-liter, 16-cylinder, 1,200-horsepower reactor behind the seats — could have upset the car’s aero balance, sending it careering across the track like an arrow that’s lost its fletching.
10 liters/minute. That’s 2 1/2 gallons. Every minute. At 240 mph, that would be 4 miles / 2.5 gallons = 1.6 miles per gallon. At a more pedestrian speed of, say 90 mph, you might get 5 or 6 mpg.
On the other hand, when you plunk down $2.5-$3 million for a car, you’re not likely to be on a gas budget.

So when 40 State’s Attorney Generals investigate the housing market and try to reach a conclusion in order to assign blame, will they find themselves staring squarely at US Congress and all the seedy connections at Fannie and Freddy? I sure hope they do. I also hope that spurs the Justice Department to take criminal action where necessary.

But the Bugatti is a street-legal production car.
As a frame of reference for everybody, my Camry, going at ~70mph gets about 30mpg. That means about one gallon every 25 minutes or so.

It is so cool to watch those miners come up! I love the smiles and hugs. I cannot even imagine what it must be like, to think you’ve been buried under tons of rock, then have to live in a cave without privacy for so long, then to be reunited with family and to look at the clear blue sky with that bright sun!

A Perry’s poke chop for lunch (and breakfast, skipped in anticipation,) choir practice tonight, preceded by a brew and a snack with adopted lil sister, and my unilateral declaration of “Hawaiian shirt day” leave no room for political bantering or serious factual debates.
But don’t worry. There’s always tomorrow.

Perhaps the most appropriate charge ever levied against a perp.
An argument started when his parents came home from their shopping trip to find “their layabout of a son in bed and hungover,” prosecution attorney Crispin Aylett told the court. A routine argument became out of control and Dighton stabbed his parents, Aylett added.
Dighton denies the murder but admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
Yep, I think that was the crux of the matter.

Heh I have been arguing this for so long…..
From the German language newspaper, Prager Zeitung, which is published in the Czech Republic, April 28, 2010.
The True Danger to America —“The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Re- public can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.” — -

— From a speech by James A. Garfield (1831-1881), 20th President of the United States.
“Now, more than ever before, the people are responsible for the character of their Con- gress. If that body be ignorant, reckless and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature. If the next centennial does not find us a great nation, it will be because those who repre- sent the enterprise, the culture and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces.”

37: It is close races, reasonably winnable by small-government conservatives, where I want to send a little money to help out. But both of the races you mention seem to be pro-abortion moderates (Charlie Bass and Mark Kirk) and I’m a single issue prolifer at the bottom line so I have to look elsewhere. Are there any close races in the Senate where we have a chance of getting small-government conservatives elected?
